This is going to be a choice many owners are going to have to make in drafts this year. Who do you take?

  • wow tough call to me.  Stafford certainly has more weapons including the best one in the league but Cam has the better physical abilities to get you FF points by adding in the rushing.  I still have a small part of me that wants to see Stafford stay healthy all season in 2012 before I go all-in on him.  Also Cam has amuch better rushing game to back him up and keep DST honest, leading to less pressure.

Im a bit torn on this, I could answer this 10 times and change my answer each time.

Dang these tough questions...I agree with everything WEW said but I would go with Stafford.  Stafford has Megatron and that is good enough for me.

Good point about the running game to keep defenses honest but the flip side is if they can't run the ball, then they will have to throw it.

I fear that Cam will not be as productive in his 2nd year.  I think that Smith needs to stay healthy, and when he leaves, they better have a replacement ready.  Not sure LeFell or Gettis are the answer.  I would go with Stafford without blinking an eye.  He has all of the weapons and has finally shown that he can make it through 16 games.  He took some pretty nasty hits as well.

dang gonna wear this coin out flipping it so much - heads it is Stafford - as stated above don't think you'd go wrong with either one but having Calvin (who will want to prove he's worth every penny he's getting now) Stafford will be chucking it long and often.

Stafford... a little more proven at this point, and he stayed healthy last year, which was a huge concern coming into last season.

Close one, but Stafford for me.  I think the passing game in Detroit will stay strong for many years to come.  Calvin obviously, but with Pettigrew and Titus developing, along with Best or Smith being good targets out of the backfield, I think this is a great offense.  Cam will be very good long term, but I don't think his 14 rushing TD's are sustainable.  That's part of the reason for the addition of Tolbert IMO.

I would have to go with Stafford. Megatron is still Megatron + Titus Young should be that much better.. I could see the addition on Tolbert maybe taking some rushing TDs away from Cam? but who knows.. Great question
    My 2013 Predictions[Non-PPR]:
    [ ] C.J. Spiller Will Be Top 2 RB(Jan 9th)
[ ] Demaryius Thomas will be the #1 scoring WR in 2013(Feb 13th)
[ ] Trent Richardson will NOT finish as a Top 10 RB in 2013!(June 4th)

Newton. I fear injury, I do, but I can't turn down Cam. Plus, Stafford, while healthy last year, isn't exactly a player I'd label less likely to get hurt. I love both, though.

  • Stafford for me. The whole idea of Cam running because he chooses to gives me heart burn

Stafford for me by a hair...and I own Newton in 2 leagues. I cant argue with 5000+ yards and 40+ TDs in the passing game.

    Stafford.
  • This is a great faceoff and a really tough call for me.  I guess if I had to pick right now I'd go with Stafford because he has Calvin.

For me, the difference between 4 and 6 TDs rushing doesn't really make a difference to me.  If Newton is rushing for Tds, its less tds that he's scoring through the air, and it's only a 2 point difference.  There is some advantage, but if Stafford throws 40 TDs and Newton throws 25 and rushes for 10, it's about equal.

I was fortunate enough to own both Newton and Stafford in both a redraft (i was the lucky one who was the last guy to draft a QB lol) and a dynasty.  Last year, I started Newton every week of the season except the bye.  In all honesty, Stafford wasn't the best QB out there on a week in and week out basis, and ALOT of his production came from playing from behind and making second half comebacks, as well as having 0 running game.  I remember checking first half scores and Stafford had like 4 FP's and i was sweating bricks.  Plus, and I remember this vividly because i traded away Stafford relatively cheap late last year, he was not considered a solid top 5 dynasty QB until after week 17 when he cracked 5000 yards with a ridiculous once in a career performance/shootout in Green Bay.  Dynasty owners always say "what have you done for me lately" and right after that game he was as high as #2 on many rankings, when a week before he was #5 or 6.

I'll take Newton over Stafford.  Right now, I have Rodgers, Brees, Newton, then Stafford though.  Its very close.  I do like a QB who can give options in goal line rushing because it's another option for scoring.  Newton is a fine passer as well, and i think his numbers last year were a tad bit more realistic than Staffords
    2013 Predictions:
-Jay Cutler will not be a starting QB in the NFL after 2013
-Matt Forte will have the best season of his career in 2013
-Trent Richardson will exceed 18 total tds in 2013
