Ok, so now that we have hit the halfway point of the 2013 fantasy football season, it’s time to crank out a go-forward 2013 Mid-season Fantasy Football Mock Draft. The following mock draft is taking into account only Weeks 9-16, so it’s as if drafting today for a fantasy football season that runs only from Weeks 9-16). The format that is assumed below is PPR-based, with 4 points per passing TD and 6 points for all other scores; the line-up assumed is based off of 1QB, 2RBs, 3WRs and 1TE. Many of the selections below were constructed in part by polling our users on our fantasy football forums. Enjoy!
Go-Forward 2013 Mock Draft
- Round One
-
Round One
1.01 – Adrian Peterson – RB
1.02 – Jamaal Charles – RB
1.03 – Peyton Manning – QB
1.04 – Matt Forte – RB
1.05 – LeSean McCoy – RB
1.06 – AJ Green – WR
1.07 – Dez Bryant – WR
1.08 – Calvin Johnson – WR
1.09 – Marshawn Lynch – RB
1.10 – Demariyus Thomas – WR[level-all]
1.11 – Rob Gronkowski – TE
1.12 – Jimmy Graham – TESmitty’s Take
Again, keep in mind that this mock draft is for Weeks 9-16 only (as if drafting today for just those weeks). Honestly, the first 9 picks seem almost perfect to me… I’d move Jamaal Charles below Peyton Manning, and I’d move Calvin Johnson above both AJ Green and Dez Bryant, but honestly, that’s about it (keep in mind that this mock took place right before Calvin’s 14-329-1TD performance last week, so something tells me he’d be the first receiver drafted above if we redid this mock today)… After the first 9 picks, I think things get interesting and arguable. While I won’t sit here and suggest that Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham can’t earn 1.11 and 1.12 respect moving forward, I just don’t draft tight ends anywhere near the first-round, especially given both are suffering from lingering injuries… I like the Demaryius Thomas pick, give or take a slot or two (probably lower vs. higher, though)… the missing player from this round, in my opinion, is Reggie Bush; he isn’t in my top 12 in dynasty, but he absolutely is in redraft!

Round Two
2.01 – Reggie Bush – RB
2.02 – Knowshon Moreno – RB
2.03 – Wes Welker – WR
2.04 – Drew Brees – QB
2.05 – Victor Cruz – WR
2.06 – Ray Rice – RB
2.07 – Vincent Jackson – WR
2.08 – DeSean Jackson – WR
2.09 – Jordy Nelson – WR
2.10 – Eddie Lacy – RB
2.11 – Arian Foster – RB
2.12 – Brandon Marshall – WRSmitty’s Take
As I said above, Reggie Bush is in my top 12 overall, maybe top 10-11, so he definitely belongs at the top of this round… There isn’t much arguing Knowshon Moreno at 2.02, and his success this year truly leaves me regretting not making my Montee Ball predictions more about that Denver rushing attack. Would of, should of, could of, but a big reason I loved Ball so much heading into 2013, and a big reason I made such lofty predictions for the guy, was due to the landing spot of Denver, and I wish I made that piece more clear and didn’t latch all my Denver RB projections to just the name. Moreno, undrafted in grips of fantasy football leagues everywhere, is proving that the situation in Denver is ideal, and whether it’s Moreno or Ball, the starting RB in Denver will likely produce elite numbers down the stretch… I like the value of Ray Rice at 2.06, even with some of the concern around Rice not looking like the same player that he once was… Brandon Marshall and Eddie Lacy both have great value near that 2.10-2.12 range, as they could both be top 12-14 overall players down the stretch in Weeks 9-16.

Round Three
3.01 – Aaron Rodgers – QB
3.02 – CJ Spiller – RB
3.03 – Frank Gore – RB
3.04 – Alfred Morris – RB
3.05 – Josh Gordon – WR
3.06 – Chris Johnson – RB
3.07 – Cam Newton – QB
3.08 – Andre Johnson – WR
3.09 – Andrew Luck – QB
3.10 – Darren McFadden – RB
3.11 – Darren Sproles – RB
3.12 – Le’Veon Bell – RBSmitty’s Take
I love the values of Aaron Rodgers, Frank Gore and CJ Spiller (despite the injury risk)… Alfred Morris, Cam Newton and Josh Gordon all seem about right at 3.04-3.07… I think Chris Johnson is tough to rank for the long-term, so I’m not as high on him in dynasty, but I like him a lot for Weeks 9-16, so 3.06 seems very sneaky-solid… Andre Johnson is very undervalued in redraft right now (know that if you’re looking to make some sneaky WR trades in redraft)… and it’s hard to argue any of the placements of Le’Veon Bell, Darren Sproles and Darren McFadden, as all three have top 25-30 overall value in go-forward redraft.

Round Four
4.01 – Trent Richardson – RB
4.02 – Justin Blackmon – WR
4.03 – Fred Jackson – RB
4.04 – Giovani Bernard – RB
4.05 – DeMarco Murray – RB
4.06 – Doug Martin – RB
4.07 – Danny Woodhead – RB
4.08 – Andre Brown – RB
4.09 – Tom Brady – QB
4.10 – Eric Decker – WR
4.11 – Julius Thomas – TE
4.12 – TY Hilton – WRSmitty’s Take
Some might stay far away from Trent Richardson at 4.01, but I think that’s a great spot given that he could extremely-outperform that draft slot. Is there risk snagging him as your fourth-drafted player for Weeks 9-16? Sure, grabbing him isn’t for the conservative-type, that’s for sure, but coming off a bye week, it’s not crazy to think that he will have a much better grip on that Colts’ offense moving forward… Justin Blackmon is tough to figure in go-forward mode, as he has the talent to be in the top 12-15 overall, but has a QB that could have him falling into the 4-6 round range (value-wise). Given the QB risk, and given what we know now, I like him here in the 4th-round, though… Andre Brown is highly-slotted at 4.08 given that he is on a bye this week, but he could go on a tear in Weeks 10-16… Doug Martin is risky at 4.06, sure, but he could also win a league at that value (draft or trade). Know that he could also be out 2-4 more weeks, or be eventually ruled out for the year, who knows at this point! Still, given that this is a guessing game for Weeks 9-16, I like Martin here in the 4th-round – for now… Other players that missed the cut include Stevan Ridley, Lamar Miller, Shane Vereen (could be a beast and worth a top 25 overall slotting if this mock was created just 1-2 more weeks in the future), Zac Stacy (his injury has him a bit tough to slot right now), Andre Ellington, Steven Jackson, Russell Wilson, Robert Griffin III, Steve Smith, Larry Fitzgerald, Roddy White, Percy Harvin, Keenan Allen, Vernon Davis, Tony Romo and a few others.
A special thanks goes out to all of you forum users who helped crank out this mock draft above!

Pretty cool of you to crank this out Smitty. I admire the fact that you’re not afraid to downgrade guys you had on your breakout list. Some of the notable pleasant surprises to me include Peyton 1.03 (I clearly had him as my QB3), Moreno 2.02 (kicking myself as he wasn’t even drafted in my league), Fred Jackson 4.03 ( old man still got it), and Woodhead 4.07 (who would have thought Matthews and Woodhead would be weekly startable), Orange Julius 4.11(thanks Smitty!). Some notable busts, CJ Spiller 3.02 (thanks Doug Marrone), Trich 4.01 (cough, thanks Smitty), Doug Martin 4.06 (thanks MRSA?)
Thanks, donvaughn. It’s always interesting to reevaluate at the midway point. Helps you be honest and reset your values.
Hey Smitty, who do you think are the wide receivers who will breakout the most in the second half of the season? Personally I think that the wide receivers who are moving from the 2nd best wr on their team to the best wr due to injuries, are going to breakout evidenced by wide receivers like jordy nelson and harry douglas performing well. Any other wr’s you think are going to breakout? I currently have a.j. green, josh gordon, t.y. hilton, harry douglass, dwayne bowe, and kendall wright as my wr’s on my team. Also, think Bowe is going to remain useless? I still believe he has elite talent, but it’s redraft, so his current situation with noodle arm Alex Smith isn’t going to change…
Tough to say for sure, but I think Hilton and Gordon are two, so nice work. Green I think could improve, even though he is already playing well, so I love your position. Douglas is playing great, but he is a good sell high if you already have 3 strong WRs and only start 3…. so make some 2 for 1 trades. Example, well, it’s too late now, but after dropping a dud game two weeks ago, Gio could have been had for Douglas, but now no one in their right mind would make that trade. But, that’s the kind of move you need to consider now before the player bounces back. Andre Johnson is another strong bet to do well from Weeks 9-16. Not a ton of breakouts left, more like bounce back like Andre. Bowe, sure, talented, but I don’t believe in him. He has to earn my trust again before I look in his direction let alone go get him, or start him.
Trade alshon jeffery for gio bernard non ppr redraft? Kicker is we start 3wr and only 2rb And no flex. My wr are hilton jeffery marvin jones keenan allen jarret boykin percy harvin my rbs are richardson lamar miller leveon bell vereen.
I would, I love Gio, even in non-PPR. Plus, Jeffery takes a relative hit in this comparison with the news you aren’t playing PPR. Hopefully Harvin gives you some relief soon! Other good buy lows, as mentioned above, Andre Johhnson, and Marshawn Lynch.
Smitty I pulled off the deal but im curious about your analysis. I rank bernard higher but with the position breakdown it makes it trickier. Do you make the same deal when you only start 2rb but 3wr?
You have some needs at WR, but I still would have made the move, and again, just try buying an Andre Johnson or Lynch on the cheap. Even a Spiller. Rich and Miller could turn it on, but without being the actual coach, it’s tough to know what kind of workload they will get. So head scratching!
Hey Smitty. Now that Blackmon is OUT INDEFINITELY, what do you think of Shorts & Mike Brown?
They are solid plays, but the QB situation still sucks, so WR3s at best. No one is going to crank out Blackmon-like numbers but Blackmon.
Smitty, my team is killing it 4 straight wins now 6-3 i have 6 good rb’s and its almost frustrating ( good problem) who to start each week, plus with Harvin coming back my flex position getting tricky do i stay put or make trades? Here is my team 12 team .5 ppr , 1 qb 2 rb 2 wr 1 flex 1 te. All tds worth 6. I can only keep 1 player next year . I can trade Moreno and Marshall for Andre Johnson or T Smith and McCoy . Another person offered me stacy and marshall for aj green. I want to do both trades so I am thinking about offering Stacy and Marshall for Green and Moreno and K Allen for McCoy and Andre Johnson or T Smith. I dont like that I have 6 potential rb2 i want mccoy and aj green thoughts?
QB Stafford
RB Spiller . L Miller. MJames. Stacy, Moreno, and Andre Brown
WR Dez, Marshall, K Allen, and Harvin
Te J Thomas
I love the McCoy and AJ Green Adds, sure. Moreno and Marshall for Andre Johnson and McCoy would be highway robbery, and above I talk about Andre Johnson being a sneaky “trade-for” prior to this week’s games. Getting Andre Johnson cheap is not likely any longer.
I love the McCoy and AJ Green adds given your depth, yep.
