With Week 1 of the 2013 fantasy football season behind us (minus the Monday Night games), it’s time to talk about Week 1 Disappointments, as well as who to Buy-Low/Sell-High!
- Is it time to panic about Lamar Miller?
-
[level-all]
Buy-Low / Don’t Sell Low
Don’t Sell Low
Lamar Miller will clearly be one of the most talked about players coming out of Week 1, at least when speaking on the topic of disappointments. In fact, I can also envision a lot of “knee-jerk reactions” in fantasy worlds, as when a fantasy storm surrounds someone’s player, specifically a player drafted in rounds 1-4, that fantasy owner doesn’t stop to think about a few things before they sell-low in some quick attempt to wash their hands of the investment entirely. I don’t know if these “sell-low” owners feel that they can sleep better at night if they hurry and rush the player off their roster, almost as if it makes that owner feel that the “letdown” never even happened… Hey, I get it, I’ve been a victim of “selling low” in the past, we all have… no one always makes the best choices in these kinds of situations… Think of “value drops” to fantasy football players much like “value drops” to stocks in the stock market. Buying a stock as it’s still potentially dropping in value is often referred to as “catching a falling knife”, but buying low in fantasy football is a bit different than this, which I’ll explain in a second. However, selling low, after massive panic, is never wise, because you might be missing out on a big bounce-back in fantasy value, as bounce-backs often occur after massive panic sets in (panic based on speculating on a player’s future – this isn’t an injury). Look at it this way… Miller just lost a grip of fantasy value. Whether he bounces back or not, currently his trade value may have literally been cut in half, and that might be optimistic. While there is a chance Miller never rebounds, for example let’s say news breaks in a few days suggesting that the runner is now going to share carries, or worse… That can happen, as anything can. However, now look at it this way. Forget what you invested… forget that you spent a 3rd-round pick on Miller… none of that matters anymore. All you need to look at, if you are a current Miller owner, is what would you invest right now if you were drafting just for Weeks 2-16 (knowing what you know right now). Then, when you’re considering selling low, ask yourself if what you’re getting has more upside than Miller even at his current value and in his current situation. Is it worth more to roll the dice and hope that he rebounds, or can you truly get enough in exchange for Miller at his current value? Is a Ryan Mathews enough? I’m not suggesting it is, or isn’t, that’s up to you and how you value Mathews… is Rashard Mendenhall or a middle-to-late future first-round pick enough in dynasty? I hope you answer “no” to Mendy and the middle-round pick, because it’s important to remember that we are just four quarters into the 2013 fantasy football season.
The “Am I Trading Too Low?” Test
Want to know the best way of ensuring you’re making a good trade? Before you pull the trigger, are you going to be embarrassed to talk about the trade and get perspectives on whether or not you did well in the trade? If you fear you won’t like what you hear, you’re selling too low!
Hold
My advice to any current Miller owners out there is to wait out the bad, even with the risk that things get worse. Remember when fantasy owners sold low on Arian Foster a week or so before Week 1 kickoff (after news briefly broke suggesting that Foster had pain shooting down his leg from his back)… well, those that reacted swiftly and traded away Foster in fear, without allowing for any sort of “trade market rebound”, well, those owners got burned, as Foster is walking into Monday night football looking 10x more valuable than he did during that brief 24 hour period when that panic-igniting news first broke.
Buy-Low
Let me start off asking you this… would/will you sell-low on Dez Bryant just because he gained a disappointing 22 yards receiving this week (with no scores)? While Dez is far more proven than Miller, you get my point in that Miller might be getting judged a bit harshly after one single contest, a contest that had a unique “flow of game” to it. As mentioned above, one doesn’t have to catch a falling knife when buying low on Miller, as unlike the stock market, you can set the terms and value that you will pay, and that owner might rush the deal and sell way lower than they should. Or, you just don’t buy Miller… My advice for all you non-Miller owners out there is to use all this information above to your advantage, but from the other side of the fence. For those of you that listened to all our Jared Cook and Julius Thomas hype, and drafted both, maybe trade Thomas for Miller if you’re only starting 1TE. That’s the definition of buying low, especially given the situation and how you’re moving depth to acquire a such a player.
Conclusion In General
If you own Miller and you’re freaking out, keep in mind that you spent a 3rd-round pick (or later) on the runner. That’s why we said DO NOT pay a higher price tag on draft day, as 3rd-round value had both a “slow start” and some “disappointment factor” built into the value/ADP. It’s only Week 1, DC Nation. Nothing is for sure, and elite “DraftCalc Breakouts” can get Spillered for a couple years before emerging (like, well, CJ Spiller). It happens. However, we aren’t there yet. Not even close. We aren’t even looking at Week 2 yet!

- Is it time to panic about David Wilson?
-
[level-all]
Don’t Sell Low
Everything said above about Lamar Miller can be said right here for David Wilson. Sure, the situations are a bit different, and honestly I feel a bit better about Miller than I do Wilson, as Miller doesn’t have a tremendous hole in his game (fumbling)… Miller just needed room to run in Week 1. Wilson could find himself in a timeshare, or worse, if he puts the ball on the ground even one more time, and he might have to immediately battle his way out of a timeshare as a way to prove himself. That is concerning, I won’t lie, but what’s the alternative to just riding the wave out? Selling for pennies on the dollar? Why? I wouldn’t sell off Wilson as anything but a high-end RB2, or sneaky-quiet low-end RB2 (like Darren McFadden or Eddie Lacy). Even then, I can understand anyone not wanting to sell-low when it comes to Wilson, given his upside; however, a Lacy, McFadden or even a Giovani Bernard plus Chris Givens combo could be a safe maneuver that doesn’t leave you too upset should Wilson bounce-back to his original level of expectation. That’s the key here… you have to ask, is what you’re getting in exchange for Wilson enough so that you aren’t pulling out your hair should Wilson rebound into the player you expected?
Buy-Low
As with the Julius Thomas example above, if you find yourself with depth galore, due to let’s say acquiring both Jared Cook and Thomas, investing in Wilson on the cheap is a great, calculated, and low-risk move for an owner with depth.
[/level-all]
- Is it time to give up on Montee Ball? Or, is it time to buy-low?
-
[level-all]
Buy-Low / Don’t Sell Low
Montee Ball disappointed in Week 1, and that’s honestly an understatement. However, this was talked about, and a slow start was in many ways expected. As I’ve said for weeks now, anyone, and I mean anyone, can get “CJ Spillered“, meaning they can get benched for an entire season, or longer, before they become fantasy relevant… three years in Spiller’s case. That’s right, I’ve been calling Spiller a top 5-10RB for three years now, and let’s be honest, I’ve been wrong for three 2.5 years. One can be wrong even when they are right, because ultimately injury, coaching decisions, all that is tied to the player and one’s prediction, right? So, am I early on Montee? Possibly, but by early I still truly think we’re talking weeks, not years (like in the worst-case “Spiller” scenario). I don’t understand the knee-jerk reactions from fantasy worlds regarding Ball. For starters, unless you went WR/WR, or something that didn’t have you drafting a RB in the first two rounds, he should be a “stash” type player for you, or a creative flex-like option, for which you likely have a comparable replacement for him sitting right on your bench. And, if you did go WR/WR (which I did, and love this year) and you drafted Ball as a potential RB2, you still likely scooped up 3-4 upside runners, or should have… so again, Ball should not be considered a liability heading into Weeks 2-16, rather, he should be looked at as a high-upside “stash”. Of course, this is all advice/comments geared toward the fantasy owner that already owns Ball. If you have already traded him away in some knee-jerk reaction, or if you plan to, I ask you this… are you seriously ready to write-off a player after one single week of regular season football? Even 2-3 weeks? Did Doug Martin explode out of the gate last season? I still don’t get the massive movement against Ball, I don’t… Again, think about my Spiller example. Of course, no one wants, or expects, an elite talent (which I still consider Ball) to ride the bench for three years before rising to a starting role. That was painful, let me tell you, and I don’t see that happening with Ball, as there are no true long-term threats in Denver to hold Ball back from the eventual starting running back job. Could it take Ball 2-3 more weeks to get consistent starter-type carries? Absolutely, and it could take half a season. Again, Doug Martin didn’t shine immediately last year… This was talked about. This was expected, or at least the possibility of a slow start like this was expected. It’s was all built into his ADP, and if that’s not the case for you, you may have drafted Ball too high, at which point selling low is an even worse idea in your situation. Selling low is just not something I’d recommend. Let me put it this way. Is Bernard Pierce, Christine Michael or Giovani Bernard starting currently? No, yet because expectations are low (going from rags to riches), they seem like ideal players to wait on, right? However, no one views Ball as a stash with huge upside, and that’s because expectations were that he would possibly start right away, and no one likes readjusting those expectations… so, the first thing people want to do is run. Well, I’m not running. I’m not suggesting Ball isn’t a risky bet, he always has been (but not an extreme risk given the investment value). All of this “doubt” we speak of makes Ball a fantastic buy-low candidate heading into Week 2. Can Montee absolutely bust this year? Yes, no question, and that can happen even if I’m 100 percent right about his talent level (like I was about Spiller three seasons!!!). Ball’s coaching staff alone could make “complete bust” a reality this year. Could Ball still crank out top 5-10 fantasy RB numbers per start in 2013? It’s not a guarantee, but yes, absolutely.
[/level-all]
- Sell Steven Jackson, or ride the wave?
-
[level-all]
Steven Jackson had a great match-up in this one, and while I think selling low isn’t wise, because his trade value is crazy-good right now, it’s my advice to move laterally into a player, or combo of players, that has/have sneaky-good value that can/will climb. Examples of names to acquire in some sort of combo-type deal: Eddie Lacy, Giovani Bernard, Cam Newton, Chris Givens, Dez Bryant. And, even if you have to give more, consider selling Jackson and someone in exchange for CJ Spiller, who many are overreacting on (like up above with Lamar Miller). Don’t sell-low on S-Jax, though, that is not what I’m saying.
[/level-all]
- Is Jared Cook for real. Should I sell high?
-
[level-all]
Yes, Jared Cook is for real. No, don’t sell-high, not unless you already have a Julius Thomas or Jimmy Graham and you can grab an elite stud RB or WR for your line-up. As coach Dennis Green would say, Cook is what we thought he was.
[/level-all]
- More sell-high players worth mentioning

[level-all]
Demaryius Thomas – If the price is right, one could always attempt to trade-in a DT for a Julio Jones, or for a combo of really good players. Just make sure you visit our forums and get some advice before you trade away a stud like DT!
Victor Cruz – Everything said above with Demaryius Thomas applies here.
Larry Fitzgerald – Everything said above with Demaryius Thomas applies here.
[/level-all]
Smitty with Miller I’m going to hold steady and keep playing Miller. Game one is game one, you can’t over reach over this week. I believe Cleveland has a great run defense and is really the reason why Miller could produce. If he does not produce next week than I’ll rethink my stance. But you can not over react after week one!
Yep. Anyone can bust, but it’s just way too early to sell for pennies on the dollar, or give up.
Great write up Smitty!
I’m holding on tight to Lamar, you’re right, selling low on him would be a mistake.
Good plan.
Yup, Miller is a hold… We’ll see what happens… Wilson? I’m in a bit more of a panic on that one, but here’s hoping he gets his act together.
Wilson does worry me more, but a sell must get you something that can arguably as good as a well-playing Wilson, or it just crushes your chances of having a strong line-up.
Thank god I don’t own Miller or Wilson on any of my teams. I feel for the owners of those two right now because yesterday was down right pathetic for both of those RB’s. I would worry more if I was a Wilson owner than a Miller owner.
On some teams, I have Trent Richardson, Lamar Miller and David Wilson. On others, I have just Miller & Wilson. Either way, I believed I was sitting pretty. Week 1 was a letdown, but I can’t give up on these guys yet.
Yep, anything can happen, good or bad, but panic is never good.
Sunday of Week 1 in the books – Dealing with leagues where I own Lamar, David Wilson, Givens, Britt….so yeah….
I agree its a hold on Lamar and Wilson since theres currently no trade value even if you were looking to unload…
I see the quote at the top where it gives props to the J. Thomas, Vereen, and Cook picks… but wow a major negative on guys above that DC/ Smitty were all in on. Overall week one not looking too great.
Its a hobby for me, and and im sure an income source/ part time gig for some. But overall if we are issuing week 1 grade for the site: I’d go C/C+…and I think that’s generous.
I traded Boldin to get Givens before week 1… ouch
I won’t make any drastic roster moves and see if some of these boys can turn it around week 2.
Big fan of the DC site
Hoping for better things to come.
The Julius Thomas and Cook calls are amazing because they are guys that were barely on the radar of most people. Their value to adp made it possible to use higher picks on guys like AJ, or other consensus established rbs. Or getting Vereen late. Last year, I had Russell, Dez, and Doug Martin with Britt and David Wilson. I basically picked these guys up in round 4 and later. Britt and D. Wilson didnt work out, but my team was a beast because I got such HUGE value from my lower picks to go along with my higher picks like Arian.
Your first couple rounds should not have included “all in guys” like Vereen, Miller, D. Wilson… I built a solid team with these middle/late round guys. Let the first few weeks play out. Btw, AJ looks like the #1 WR I got him for in the middle of the 2nd round.
We have already landed a few of the picks, and many of the Upside Board picks, which are BOLD and OUT ON A LIMB, are not build for Week 1 success (Bernard Pierce)… EJ Manuel, TY Hilton, Montee Ball, all of those had “slow starts” and climbing the ranks built into the value. We haven’t even seen Week 2 yet.
Remember, you’re just grading our Upside Board. We do a lot more on the site, and we talk up a lot of other players all year. The Upside Board is “Bold” and one would be lucky to land 5 out of 10 of those. If your entire team is the Upside Board, you could have several misses. Not many sites go out on a limb and predict 10 insanely bold predictions, and most year’s land well over 50% of the picks. It’s week 1, remember how bad our Russell Wilson prediction looked for several weeks into last season? He was our NO. 1 overall spot! Could Wilson and Miller both flop? Sure, but if you’re grading our entire site off our 10 Upside Board Bold Predictions, I don’t think you’re giving a fair grade because we do a lot more than that.
I’m not just grading on upside board. Been reading everything on the site since before January. Granted its only been one week but it sounds like a lot of spin control… you can’t be satisfied so far.
Luckily I played reggie over lamar.
Seems like I’m saying what a ton of period are thinking. ..
I’ll reevaluate later and be the first person to sing praise when due.
I’ll keep my eye on : trent. Lamar. Wilson. Givens. Cook. Rg3. Ball. Bell. Britt. Dez. Julio. Aj . Ty. Julius. Forte… the people are your boys aren’t hard to miss. ..also eating Weekly rankings. ..
Hope I can give a A next week.
Thanks
Sorry for the auto correct in spelling. Texting from crappy phone
I feel for the Wilson and Miller owners. Never felt the desire to own Miller and I shed myself of Wilson over the summer. Wilson worries me for than Miller does. Tom Coughlin does not mess around and carries a very short leash.
Ya I went all in on the DC recommendations, in one major league I started TY Hilton, TRich, David Wilson, Lamar Miller and Zach Sudfeld and I think got a combined 14pts from all of them combined and was the lowest scoring team in a 14 team league, definitely in Panic mode…
I feel your pain. I basically celebrated at my draft when I took Wilson in the mid 3rd of a 14 team league…. now I look like a fool… I was between him and Reggie Bush….FAIL
Reggie Bush also dislocated his thumb, and strained his groin. He might be ok, but it is a reminder why guys like him and RunDMC are risks you dont want to invest in early. I think David Wilson gets things under control. They have nothing much else in the run game at this point. Play things out a couple weeks. People panic too much.
Oh man. But were Cook, Julius or Jordan Cameron not available at TE? I think they were all ranked in the top 12 back in August over Sudfeld. Should have been available late in the draft. Assuming your other picks were like AJ/Julio with Cam/RG3 if you went all in on DC picks, I would think you’re going to be fine.
“if you went all in on DC picks, I would think you’re going to be fine.”
I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree with the above 10 team league ppr in order of rd: foster,bryant,wilson,miller,amendola,garcon,rg3,ball,givens,sanders,vareen,romo,cook,tate,
now it might work out – but it certainly doesn’t seem likely
In a 10 team, Foster seems a little early if you went by ranks…hope it works out. I dont know how to grade a team, but I bet if you wait a couple weeks it works out.
The league I follow most, 14 team ppr, 8th pick… I went with DC ranks and ended up getting by round…
T Rich, AJ Green, Miller, Russell Wilson, Vereen, Bell, TY, Gordon, Britt and Julius. I grabbed as much RB depth as I could, and even with Vereen out, I am pretty confident with what I got. Be curious to see what was available at your pick, assuming you were late in the 10 teamer. No T.Rich, AJ, Julio, or TEs like Julius, Cameron or Cook? They were all top ranked guys that were available to me in a 14 teamer.
I was only down by 12 PTs in my main league with D Wilson, Celek and my kicker to go, and my opponent only has his kicker, figuring I’ve got this, DWilson pretty much killed my game, I want to jump off of a bridge lol
geesh… Go Celek
maybe he will put up a 15 point game and you can out kick that guy for the win
Let’s all remember that when we look back at week 1 there will be several anamolies. I remember reading one post where a guy traded stephen hill for marshawn after week 1 last year. Yeah…
Always. Is anyone giving up on Dez Bryant (although, his injury is scary). Is anyone giving up on Cam Newton? Guys play bad all the time. Game situations can cause teams not to run (Trent Richardson)… it happens.
Now Vereens out 2-3 weeks with a broken wrist ?
What?……
You gotta be kidding me.
Yeah, that’s horrible. He was the one RB doing amazing on our Upside Board. He will be back, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Willis McGahey and Joe Mcnight both in NYC tomorrow for a Giants tryout…
Brandon Jacobs too… Writing on the WALL
Just traded welker for Wilson. 16 team ppr keeper league. A rebuilding year for me. Sticking with ya smitty. Can’t jump ship but I did just buy low on Wilson. I couldn’t trade welker this offseason if my life depended on it now I have a offer I couldn’t refuse. Welkers old. Mannings old and I’m in it for the long haul. Here’s to hoping Wilson finds his lock and key on that ball. Still pumped about miller despite the poor outing. Also traded for spiller… Ugh. Not a good first week. Good thing is that we still have 14 more weeks to go!
Creative buy-low, despite the risk that still remains with Wilson. If NYG don’t play Wilson, or give him another chance, it would be foolish. These coaches can be foolish, but in a dynasty league, that’s a great buy-low opportunity.
I started Cam Newton, David Wilson, Lamar Miller, Hilton and Sudfeld week 1. Fail.
Time to regroup and scheme for week 2.
Any suggestions on which running backs Wilson owners should acquire? Any sneaky good buy low trade candidates?
A creative Wilson for Lacy and someone? Forte, even if you have to give up someone else for Forte.
Past creative moves that don’t have you selling the farm, it’s tough to advise anyone sell low.
Smitty,
Should I go after Ball and give up Julius Thomas. I do with Cook as my TE? Or is Thomas worth more then Ball?
Not use who else I can get for him. Right now I only have l.smith and Murry as my starters.
Thomas should command a bit more than Ball, as Ball can be bought very low right now. I have one offer out where I get Ball and Hilton for Thomas. And I have Cook as my starter as well.
I agree but it’s the only trade I can pull off. So do I pass or trade J. Thomas for Ball ?
Well, can you wait? Ball may not start for a few weeks, if he ever does, there is that chance. Thomas could gain more value, so sometimes the best move is to wait.
Ok Smitty so I have Cruz and with him having a good week I want to try to snatch Julio, what do you think?
I trade Cruz for Julio, sure. Not that Cruz can’t continue to be a very good WR1, and not that anyone can’t get hurt. But, moving forward I like Julio more, no questions.
If you have a chance to flip Cruz for Julio Jones POUNCE on it, Brayk.
Smitty
I have J Cook and Gronk as my TE’s. Cj spiller and Lamar as RB1 and RB2. Should I consider trading one of my TE’s and Lamar for possible another RB1? I know it’s only been one week, I can see the talent with Lamar as well, but I just question the Dolphins being loyal to him.
Thanks
If the deal is right and you can upgrade into a safer option using only your back up TE, sure. Forte, Reggie Bush, sure, any of those guys might be worth the move to eliminate some risk. Past that, yeah, don’t sell low, but you might have a creative way to buy low and not really sell low, at least given your situation.
Everyone needs to chill it’s one week and while Wilson and miller flamed u need to chill and wait it out …..
Agreed. Yes, it hurts watching so many Upside Board guys do very little in Week 1, but it’s Week 1. And those are just 10 picks on our site, we do a lot more than just our 10 Upside Board picks… loading your entire team up with Bold Predictions has it’s risks, nor was it ever recommended to draft the same players across all leagues.
I still have faith in some of these guys, but NO ONE is going to land all of their Bold Predictions, nor are all of the “lands” going to occur right out of the gate. Like our Russell Wilson prediction last year, which took weeks and weeks.
Well said.
Anyone people are targeting in waivers . I have faa budgets with $100.
How much bid worth for guys ? If any
Edelman
M. Brown
Pryor
Giants New rb ?
Deeper sleepers ?
Edelman did a lot of his damage when Amendola was out, before he came back in, am I right? I watched the Red Zone on Sunday, so I missed some of that game. Point is, Edelman could be huge if Amendola goes down, and maybe he cools while he is healthy? Not sure that I drop too much on him yet, but it all depends on team needs. Pryor is solid if you’re hurting at QB, but usually there is a much bigger free agent grab during the beginning of a season.. I don’t see that player yet, so I’m holding my blind bid funds in many leagues unless I’m hurting at a position so badly I need to grab an Edelman. I own Pryor in almost every league (he was available in), so won’t need to pick him up.
I had a good buy low opportunity on Ball. I traded Le’Veon for him straight up. I felt like it was a good deal as I have knowshon and neither broncos rb will start for me except on bye weeks.
This way I can let that situation sort itself out and that way I have one RB in a high powered offense. I think it was a good move, but Smitty definitely gave me the faith to go for it. You have to be crafty after going WR/WR to start to get a stud rb at some point.
Yep, nice work.
Update: Amendola is said to be sure to miss this week’s game (week 2), so Edelman looks like the add here. How much depends on how bad you need a WR. I hate using up all the waiver funds if you don’t think this is a big-time long-term move for your line up, but you will have to make that call.
thinking it will cost at least 1/4 of my budget to land him.
starting 3 WR I have
1) D. Thomas
2) Nicks
3) Given
Bench
Randle
Hopkins
Britt
I dont think its worth spending ~$25/$100 FAAB on Edelman, let me know what people think.
Yea, not sure I would, as you have three fine starters (yes, Givens is a great WR3 still, i don’t care how he did in Week 1 when he was shutdown by design by AZ. I guess for trade purposes, Edelman for 25 bucks out of 100 isn’t that crazy, though. Think you could pull off some trades with Edelman in the mix?
hey smitty I drafted cook and julius thomas in a ppr league but we can only start 1 te.. would you trade julius thomas for david wilson.. or what players would you try to go after with julius or would you hold onto julius i have chris johnson lamar miller and ball at rb so i can use a rb. thanks
In your situation, given that you are starting Cook, go get Wilson and roll that dice! I would.
thanks.. what about leveon bell would u go after him with julius if this wilson trade gets declined i was thinking that leveon would be a sneaky trade lol
Not a bad move, no. The Wilson move has more upside by far… But, stay on the news regarding Bell, though. Make sure all is well before you pull the trigger!
Wilson and Miller destroyed me this week. Is there anyone on the wire that you would put a lot of points into? I may be stuck playing them as I have a few teams with Miller/Wilson combo but can flex one of them and sub in an Edelman.
I’m still starting both in leagues where I own both, there isn’t another option. No way I’m benching either yet. Could it happen? Anything can, but Wilson seems safer today than yesterday, and Miller is a super talent and I think talent will shine through, but there is that small chance he is limited for a week or two, sure.. waiver wire guys over these two? I’m not so sure I could do that. Edelman this week over one, I could see that I guess, but it would be tough for me to make such a move, as I still believe, and willing to roll the dice. Definitely mix up your teams each year. Drafting a Cook or Montee Ball on every single team, or Pierce/Michael, that’s all good, as you’re not spending high draft picks on them… so no risk if one goes down, all teams can be just fine. However, Wilson and Miller are 2-3 rounders, and rostering them on most of your teams can hurt if injury, slow starts, disappointments happen. I’ve done it before too, believe me. I’ve just learned no matter how much you like player, mix things up!
Hello mr smitty I just pulled off julius thomas for shane vereen and I have cook and its ppr and I can only use one te no flex for te. Way better then getting wilson in my opinion. The wilson trade got denied anywats. Vereen should only miss 4 weeks ill be patient and take the gamble. I see little gamble and HUGE reward especially considering its a ppr league do you approve
well when i put the trade in i was hearing vereen just out 4 games now im hearing 9 and trade went through kind of sucks but im still okay with it i guess cause i have cook now its an even bigger gamble. i still see tons of value its a keeper league and i could keep him for next year
Yeah, that’s the risky you take when trading for a hurt player in a NE uniform. They can be underplaying it or overplaying it. I hate the way teams report injuries now. It’s not a bad move given it’s a keeper, absolutely. I love Thomas, but you have Cook. Nice drafting.
Should I trade Julius Thomas for David Wilson? I have Owen Daniels as my other TE. My RBs are Miller and TRich.
I would! That’s buying low!
Smitty how hard are you going after Edelman. I see Amendola as being on and off the field all year and think Edelman will be a great #2 w/o him and a good 3 with him. Would you drop your bankroll if you drafted Harvin/Wilson/Miller and are a little stuck. I have guys like Kenbrell/M Floyd and TY but am hesitant and dont want to start 0-2
He is worth your a big chunk of your bid dollars, yep! If you need him, that is. In one league where I’m hurting bad at my Wr3, I bid all 100 of 100 bid dollars on him. In 3 others i bid 10-20 out of 100 because I’d still struggle to start him.
Hey Smitty! I posted this question in the wrong spot initially ( in the start/bench area) and I’ve posted this on the forums. But I’d like to hear your thoughts of this trade idea.
I am in a 12 team, redraft, non-PPR league that starts 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, K, DEF. All TD’s 6pts.
I have both Cook and Thomas at TE.
My WR’s are: Julio, Britt, E.Sanders, Hopkins, Harvin
My RB’s: Richardson, Miller, Gio Bernard, Ball, Moreno
There is another team who is weak at TE (Fred Davis).
BUT, his WR’s are strong (I’m not sure he knows it!). He has: Marshall, Nicks, Givens, Hilton, Randle, Broyles
Also his RB depth is weak; Spiller, Ridley, BJGE, K.Hunter, M.Bush
Using Julius Thomas as a trade piece, how would you go about a trade offer. I was thinking of offering Thomas & Sanders for Nicks, or Thomas straight up for either Hilton or Givens.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Also, my apologies for posting this in multiple spots!
Go after both Hilton and Givens using Thomas and Broyles?
What about Thomas/Miller/Sanders for Spiller?
Thoughts on picking up joique bell? Smitty do u think hes a 1 week wonder or a good stash with reggie out with a hangnail bush ahead of him? Lost my rb3 vereen till week 11 atleast ouch!
Sure , but depends on who you have to drop.
Id drop deandre hopkins…
Redraft I assume! Not a bad move either way, and either is going to be serviceable this year, just depends on team need, but it’s a good idea for Reggie owners to own J. Bell.
Definitely redraft…I love hopkins but im with you I think it may take a coupke years as rookie wrs usually struggle. Someone just dropped vincent brown too…im intrigued by h but havent heard much from dc nation about him…
Also I rolled the dice last week on britt over jeffery and it wouldny of mattered eithet way. I think this week ill roll with your week 2 start prediction and plug in alshon. I think this wr3 spots gonna give me headaches all year…
Also to those lamar and david wilson owners in panic mode my advice is chill. As a fins fan I can tell u moose martins blocking was a huge part of millers bad week. His ability to seal the edge is spotty and that team desperately misses jake long. However that can assumably be fixed as doug martin ran wild behind an injury riddled line most of last season and went top 3 in most drafts this year. The giants need wilsons speed but i hate tom coughlins approach with running backs. Did they really just sign brandon jacobs again? That just tells me Ill take the guy with the bad offensive line over the guy who has fumbling issues aand cant find his way outta the coaches doghouse if I own both im shopping wilson over lamar but im not giving either away
I alo noticed some people ripping on this site and giving it bad “grades”. I just wanna say after one week no one should be graded. To tell u what I think of dc nation this is the first time in history that ive ever paid for fantasy footba advice. Its mostly due to the fact that I play in so many big money al/nl only leagues that I never have time to prepare fully for my football leagues. I followed this site last year to a championship and years before was amazed by the percentage of accurate breakouts predicted. My team last year had rus wilson spiller and dez. I love its boldness, originality and smooth layout.Keep up the good work smitty cause either way haters gonna hate
Thanks buddy!
Looks like I fat fingered a few of those posts. Hope my points get across. Ill post more as baseball season winds down. Heres to a big bounceback week for the upside board!
Just traded brees and hopkins for cam and ty hilton what do u think smitty its redraft non ppr
I love both Hopkins and TY Hilton, and Brees/Cam could go either way. So, no side killed it. Scoring determines a lot, too. I don’t think either side crushes it, depending on scoring (ex: if 6pts per TD pass I’d rather have the Brees side), but I think Hopkins could have more hit and miss weeks than Hilton, unless Indy plays more games with their most electric player.
