Will Toby Gerhart be the RB1 in Jacksonville?

It's RFA time in my dynasty leagues and guys are bidding up my RFA Toby Gerhart. Is he RB1 potential or does that go to Jordan Todman or Denard Robinson?

The #1 for them...maybe. Not sure what that means for fantasy though...RB 3?

I'm betting they draft a RB

He's going to be the guy, Gus Bradley came out and said he is going to be getting 15-20 touches. Coupled with his excellent pass catching/blocking ability I think he is a lock. I'm really really high on Gerhart and have been investing in him for basically nothing where I can hoping that he'd get his shot.

A lot of people don't believe in him, but I do. I think its mainly a function of being compared to ADP and also being white. Some of the stuff I read on twitter is just ridiculous, saying he's a plotter or slow. He played centerfield at Stanford and outperformed the Lacys & Bells and most of the rookies at the combine. His agility will never confuse you for Gio Bernard but he can definitely move for a big man. He did nothing but produce in college and also in the pros in the limited opportunities he has had.

I truly believe Gerhart is in for RB2 numbers and possible RB1 in PPR

It is very unlikely the will draft a RB in the 1st or 2nd. I don't think there is a chance that a 3rd or later RB will outperform or get a chance.

Nobody drafts a rb that early.. A 5th rd rb can easily be a stud... Zac Stacy... Jamaal Charles was a 3rd

Thats not the argument here, of course a stud RB can come from anywhere.

But what are the chances of a 5th round rookie getting an opportunity over the guy they just threw 4.5M guaranteed money at? Further, even if he did get that chance I don't think that he'd out perform him.

Ummm if that rb turns out good the chances are very good.. You play your best player

No way they draft a back in the 1st, but they could with a 2nd or 3rd. Gerhart had ways been a wonder. Never given an opportunity to be the guy. He's flashed the ability, but the sample size is small. If Bradley holds to that workload, he can def be an RB2. That's just talk to me though in March. We can all guess, but no one really knows. I'm just saying with gerhart, Todman, dennard as the only backs on the roster, I'm thinking they draft a guy who will contribute.

Okay it might be coach speak. I'd also point to the fact he was the first RB signed and for a lot more than expected in a terrible RB market. He was obviously a priority for them.

I was banking on Todman taking the job. I thought Gerhart looked really good though.

I'm not saying he can't be a decent fantasy rb.. I'm just saying it's early yet to think nothing else can happen..

People forget that Gerhart was a 2nd round pick. This guy doesn't lack talent- is he an elite RB prospect? Hell no. But if you have been able to score him for a late 3rd, which I have its a win-win. I'd still bet the market is still way behind on him. This is the type of guy that wins championships a la Moreno last year.

Definitely worth a flyer. I won't reach for him.

My take is my take. The thread topic was very specific as to whether you think he'll be the guy or not. Does my strong conviction on this mean that there is no chance it wont happen? No way. I can't even say for certain that Jamaal Charles will be starting week 1.

But my take is informed by a number of factors.. Pedigree: check, High draft pick: check, College productino: check, NFL performance: check. Only thing missing is the chance, and if you look at the RB market and the incoming rookies I don't see anyone taking his job. Its his to lose.

I hear what you are saying. What I meant was that I don't believe they'd invest the necesary pick to get a guy that could take Gerhart job as a rookie in camp or even later on. Hyde, Sankey, Seastrunk, etc. There is always a possiblity I'm wrong, but again my take is strong because of the money they gave him and that he was the first RB signed.

No one saw him getting 3y/10.5 with 4.5 of it guanteed. For perspective DMC, whom most experts had as #1 or #2 FA RB available only got 100K guaranteed money. Completely different situation with DMC's injury history, but I don't think anyone could argue that the RB market is terrible.

Even if he is relegated to passing downs or RBBC, the price tag on him even now is so low I think you are doing yourself a disservice to not try and grab him.
