    • come on you kidding me? this site has landed a ton of stuff too, so let me get this straight, because the particular advice you followed that they provided didn’t work out, you get your money back? What world do you live in?

These are predictions and the ones everyone keeps talking about are the bold ass ones that they even say won’t land even 50% of the time because they are bold in big ways.

asking for a refund because you dont like the choices you made when the site gives tons of good advice and advice that doesn’t stick is so lame.

  1. I’m not trying to be mean or an asshole but I’m still waiting for just one or two of all the bold predictions that were made in preseason to come through. This must be a bad year for you guys cause you were way off on almost everybody. I have almost all your recommendations on my team. T-rich, miller, T.y, montee, britt, givens, Wilson and I’m at the bottom of my league. I understand and respect your potential upside perspective of fantasy football but all I’m trying to say is I was just better off going with the household names than looking for all of these potential upside players that don’t seem like there going to come thru. I joined this site to have someone tell me lesean was going to bounce back big instead of projecting him to be outside of the top 10. I mean you guys were not only off on your potential upside guys but also on a lot of the big names. Sorry for the criticism but I’m just voicing my opinion that I’m sure a lot of people here feel alike.

    • manny9235,
Well, I made the same mistake. I stacked up too many players on the upside board. I discovered this site last year. It was free last year so there was no harm trying out his upside players. But because of their success last year, I guess they decided to charge for it. We are basically paying Smitty to be a talent evaluator for us. He did warn us don’t reach for these upside players though. In the end, it is our decision to follow his advice. But then again, why do we pay for it when his advice is just a hit or miss? The jury is still out on T Rich and L Miller. But besides Gordon, oh my, the upside board list couldn’t get any worse than this. It’s been a total disaster. It’s just my opinion. I’m not trying to attack Smitty. I actually enjoy reading his commentaries. Speaking of commentaries, where is Add/Drop for week 7 articles?

      • We didn’t just decide to charge after having one successful year. I’ve been at it for 9 years running with great accuracy, proven by boat loads of testimonials. Again, I’m not pleased with how many Upside Board Bold Predictions have landed thus far, I’m never pleased if even 1-2 don’t land, but as stated within these comments already, landing even 5 is huge given how bold some are, and these Bold Predictions (10 Upside Board picks) are just one feature that we do.

    • While I can understand frustration with some of the Upside Board picks not landing, our site offers way more than those 10 Bold Redraft Predictions. Unfortunately, it looks as though many are judging the entire site’s success on those picks. 10 Weeks are still left, and while some of those Upside Board picks still may not land, more than half may not, I have been at this for 9 years running with great success and accuracy, and that goes for the Upside Board picks, but they are “Bold” for a reason. Some years we will land more than others, some years will be phenomenal like 2010, 2011 and 2012, and other years will look like 2013 (but it is much more rare to miss so many Bold Predictions). As stated over and over, the Upside Board is “Bold” and landing even half every single season would be huge (and we have landed more than half for years straight)… so a year like this is bound to happen once in a while. But, again, the Upside Board is not all we do, and yes we have missed on Trent Richardson as well (so far), but suggesting he would have struggled all year in CLE after two games (before Josh Gordon returned) and predicting a trade that would slow his usage down upon learning), that was a little hard to predict. The misses on the Upside Board (so far) is overshadowing the Julius Thomas picks, the the WR/WR Strategy suggestions (where many own Dez Bryant and Calvin Johnson and are starting Gio Bernard, Lacy and other sneaky-good runners in place of big name studs that have failed… we provide a lot of content here at DraftCalc, the Upside Board’s Bold Predictions are not all we do/offer, not even close, but of course I strive for better than what we currently have in terms of Upside Board lands… but again, while 6 weeks isn’t short, we still have a ways to go!

And, if anyone has questions about past accuracy, or needs proof we aren’t just taking stabs in the dark, I urge you to read the TESTIMONIALS section of the site, where you can get a 9 Year Recap of how much we’ve landed.

    • that’s ridiculous……its an upside board nobody said draft every player off the upside board. Smitty has one of the longest track records of finding talent. what about players like julius thomas and jordan cameron?? was espn or the nfl network fantasy experts talking about them those players before the season. Lamar miller has elite talent like smitty said..but he also warned that his coaching can get in the way of his production…which is clearly happening if u watch his games. what about shane vereen?? he was gonna steal ridleys job did you see him week one? all predictions cant be hits. Ty Hilton is about to explode i don’t even care what he did against the chargers last night. JOSH GORDON HELLOOOO! dont even think you needed an upside board on josh gordon…you just have to watch football last year or watch gordon in pre season. once i saw that one handed over the shoulder catch against the lions in pre season i was sold.

      • Although I’m struggling in my leagues I personally believe that if I just squeeze my way into the playoffs, I could win the whole thing. Julio, Cobb and Vereen got injured and that hurts but I believe guys like TY and Gordon will begin to produce numbers. Also, guys like TRich and LMiller can explode at any moment like Doug Martin did last year. Smitty did work for me last year. I wouldn’t have picked up guys like Dez, Spiller, Doug Martin, etc. if it weren’t for the site. Although I wish injuries didn’t occur and I hoped these players would produce week 1, it doesn’t work that way. Have a little patience. I think things will play out!

        • Thanks, buddy. Yeah, Cobb, Julio, and Vereen we landed no question and boom injury. You can’t predict those. You did an amazing job landing that group, nice work. And, yep, TRich, Miller, it’s way too early to suggest they can’t do as you said.

          Keep up the good work.

  2. Yeah I love this site but last year I viewed it for free…everyone has off years but when u charge $$ the boos get louder

    • Understandable, but again, while 6 weeks isn’t exactly short, we still have 10 weeks for some of these players to turn it around. Not that all will, maybe only a couple do, but as said above, the Upside Board is only one feature we offer. And, drafting an entire team off the Upside Board is bound to be risky, something we advise against, as we are already telling you up front that landing half would be huge, as all 10 are hugely bold!

    • these guys have landed predictions for years, something like 6 or 7 years straight with huge huge predictions landed. over and over and over. one bad year out of 7 and what now the site isn’t worth paying for all of the sudden? not to mention the season isn’t even half way over? overreacting going on.

  4. Can’t wait to see next years board Smitty. I smell a rebound on the horizon. This post isn’t intended to mean none of the guys will turn it around this season but rather I think you were just a year early on a few. One that really stands out is Hilton, I think he’ll become what you envisioned next season. Still time to turn it up, which is certainly possible!

  5. I’m suffering and mostly my own fault for going to heavy on upside board , learned my lessen , my only true regret that pains me daily is trading j Thomas after week one or two I can’t remember for c givens having cook as well , that was a huge dynasty mistake and once again my own fault I should have seen the te situation may out a little longer …..
This is my first year with smitty but I love the site …..

  6. Im riding the upside board out too. Vareen julio and cobb all out w injuries is sinking me more than anything…cant predict injuries. Still love the trade advice.

  7. Thanks smitty for the best fantasy football website. julius thomas and jordan can have 0 points for the rest of the season and they already returned my 14th and 15th round investments by helping me win 4 weeks. I drafted upside players like you said and did not reach on players. I can’t wait until shane vereen comes back cause I can argue with anyone that after brady vereen is the biggest weapon on that offense.gronks a beast but that dude will be questionable for the rest of his life and brady can really use vereen for rushing and passing .I see another great call on him.

    • Thanks, buddy. I really do understand some other people being frustrated, it’s a crazy year where a grip, not just 1-2, of the top RBs are fails. It’s a horrible year for predicting big names, it just is. But, the year isn’t over, and we still landed a lot of other stuff, like Julius Thomas, that was not Upside Board-related. The Upside Board, when it fails, overshadows everything else, and it makes me wonder if the feature is understood enough to even keep up for 2014.

      • Please dont. Dont let 4-5 brave but wrong complainers ruin the best feature around. no one can keep landing bold predictions at the rate you were for years straight. you kidding me. the complainers dont even acknowledge you landed so much other stuff this year its stupid to complain about making your own decisions and wanting to blame someone that has been there for us for 7 years.

        • Agreed, please dont get rid of upside board.

Maybe what you can do next year is in BOLD at the top of every player add “Suggested Round” to take. I know you said that with each player but make it part of the structure so that people are not reaching?

  8. I think as a new site member this summer I didn’t grasp the upside board in that its best to grab a few of the players as they fall not grab them all as we need to keep value in other established players in mind .

  9. The analysis and DIRECT feedback offered by this site is out of this world, keep it up Smitty and DC nation moderators. Ur not pissing away 20 bucks here.

  10. Kaep’s projections couldn’t have been more wrong the past couple weeks. And seriously, when did you call out Julius Thomas? Training camp? I think more than a few could see the potential of him having a great year by that time. Had you called it out in June than I could see claiming it as a “victory”. Too much sleeper hype on this site……I should have gone with the proven commodities. Fantasy football is all about minimizing risk right? Still would have drafted Wilson and Hilton though…..I liked them this year before I ever found draftcalc.

    • When did he call Julius Thomas? How about when everyone and their grandfather didnt have him even close to being a top 10 tight end thats when. I think he called him a top 5 tight end and he wasn’t drafted as a starter by anyone but me in any of my leagues thats when. I was laughed at twice for drafting him as my starter so what are you talking about when? Thats when! Who cares if its the preseason? I love when people say a prediction wasnt early enough because it was a last minute prediction. It doesnt matter if it was in the preseason because he landed it before anyone else. There is a lot of hate going on and its so unwaranted. Has the site missed some upside board predictions so far sure but that doesnt tell the whole story on how theyve helped us here. I cant even take commenting on this topic anymore and i feel bad for the site given how these comments are treating them. Its 6 weeks into the season people and even if they miss all those upside board picks the site offers so so much more than those 10 players its a joke to rip on this site for just those. I’m headed to the forums where people arent blaming others for their season.

  11. I’ve been following Smitty for numerous years now and I can solidly vouch for the man. He’s consistent at finding the next big thing. That being said everyone is human, and makes the occasional error. If you’re looking for 100% accuracy you’ll never find it, ever.

Sure this season has brought us some promising young studs that have yet to give us their full value but the upside board is mostly viewed in a dynasty sense. He did tell us to avoid Steven Jackson at all costs, that’s going without being spoken of. Heck I disputed Smitty on that call. Guess what, Smitty turned out right, again.

You’re going to have a few misses, its only natural. But the only reason I stay on this site (aside from the other dozen bright minds) is the fact that its year round football, and the guy know his stuff.

You can choose not to like this site if you wish and that’s perfectly fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, that’s cool. I’ll be the first though to tell you, we’re not like the other fantasy football sites out there. So don’t confuse us with them. We won’t keep boasting the same names of Andre Johnson and Steven Jackson till the cows come home. We’ll look deeper between the lines and find you that Arian Foster, Cam Newton or Josh Gordon before they were household names.

This isn’t your ordinary generic site. We view fantasy differently, we do come up short at times. However more often than not, we hit it out of the park. Go through the testimonials, the draftmasters, the expert leagues… DraftCalc.com back up their claim as a bold view on fantasy, one that delivers.

  12. To me D.Wilson is truly the only one that really failed the upside board. As he was a 3rd rounder that I want to drop so bad, but holding him for a playoff run.

Last year, I killed it in my league dropping 180 points in non ppr scoring in the championship. This is because I was able to get Spiller and Dez at great value and they turned into RB1 and WR1 for me. My final team consisted of 3 RB1′s and 3 WR1′s plus Aaron Rodgers. It really didn’t even matter who I started they all exploded.

Lamar and David were this year’s flavor, but they didn’t come as cheap, costing many of us 3rd to 4th round picks. I was lucky to have Josh Gordon in the late mid rounds because my Julio went down and Gordon slides right into that slot. Imagine if Julio wasn’t hurt I’d have both of them in the lineup, two WR1′s.

For Smitty, my only complaint is the projections as they do not change much and it would be better off as ranking system. It would probably look better as a tiered ranking system instead. The TY Hilton & Jared Cook are always the same and they look like its just 1400 yards and 10 TD divided by 16 games. More specifically they do not change due to any type of match ups. The Pryor Projection last week was TOO BOLD.

  13. Ok just a few things I want to clear up
    Mr jimmyj,
What I said are not complaints there facts!, big difference
In case you didn’t know how to distinguish the two. Smitty being
Way off on the upside board and bold predictions is something
that cannot be ignored. Even being wrong on a lot big names, like McCoy for example like I mentioned before he was projected for 1000yds and 6tds for the year Now that you shouldn’t take all the players
Mentioned there is a different story but smitty did say him self that
He would feel very comfortable going into the season with Wilson and miller as his 1 and 2 backs which does make you feel
    Like these are must grabs.
Regarding Steven Jackson, anybody who knows anything
About fantasy football would know to stay away from a 30yr old
Back with more miles than a 1988 car. Regarding Julius Thomas,
I have heard smitty mention him in preseason so ill give him credit for that but he was never
Very high on him like he was with cook and Cameron. As a matter of fact smitty had him ranked #10 out of all the TE with a bunch of duds in front of him.
Regarding the bold predictions, look smitty I’m not trying to knock you but think about it I know you said you can’t land them all but I can sit here and list all the teams tha need wr or rb then list either free agents being listed and rookies and say there all going to break out and I’m going to hit a few of them also and the ones I don’t hit blame it on bad coaching or being to early.
Example Julio jones, we know the guy could play from college Atlanta has a good qb and only one receiver that gets doubled every time so they give up 10 draft picks to get him. Ok here comes the “bold” prediction Julio jones will break out this year a be a top receiver! I just think instead of bold predictions maybe just players that should be kept on your radar.

    • Smitty actually predicted Julio as a top 3 WR, not just a top one. As for your Sjax comment, most other sites were hyping him like crazy. The rest of your comments I feel I explained in my own comment that was posted. I think you are the type of guy that I explained. Anyway, maybe you should go make your own fantasy football site. I’m sure it will be a hit. Good luck!

  14. Smitty, I’ve enjoyed your ranking for a couple years now, not afraid to put the emerging stars at the top of your rankings. However, your Chris Givens love is ridiculous. All year you post him in the top 15 WRs and he is terrible This dicredits all your other rankings.

    • While you could end up being right, we still have 11 weeks left. I guess I was discrediting my rankings last year as well when I stuck by Russell Wilson and he finished like a monster (and was barely drafted and was cut in most other leagues where he was in fact drafted). Slow starts happen, busts happen. Again, I’m not saying I’m going to fore sure be right on this one, but having Givens still ranked high after 6 weeks isn’t discrediting my rankings if you ask me. Also, you say you’ve followed me for a couple years… I guess close to 8-9 years of landing some of the bigger breakouts you can find in the business buys me no slack or faith? :)

  15. Wow, I am shocked at some of the response Smitty is getting back from owners. This is my second year following Smitty and someone I consider a friend & my General Manager of the PayDirt Factory. As owners we have the right to hire and fire any GM at anytime, but those who are considering that consider this.

A GM is an individual who can evaluate talent, work well with others, deal with the media, lead, manage, build and put together a winning franchise & develop a blueprint for fantasy football owners everywhere. Note: If owners did this job with average results, you need not apply. Welcome Smitty. “)

    Skill Set Needed:

    Leadership:

Anyone will tell you when the going gets tough the tough gets going or is it to make fun of bold predictions and talk about their own GM in a negative way. It’s a way for these owners to distance themselves from their boss when things are going wrong. A GM (Smitty) who has the ability to lead and command respect will get more out of his staff a.k.a. moderators, fellow DC Nation owners and be able to keep the ship sailing in stormy seas. The anchor holds inspite of the storm (if you want to call it that) and it’s only week six.

    Evaluator of Talent:

No doubt, your number one skill set should be that of an evaluator of talent. The ability of a General Manager to consistently keep their pipeline full of talent via draft, trade, waiver wire (best example DC Nation) will always be guaranteed a high degree of success.

    A Strong Personality:

Imagine a job where you have to deal with high demanding personalities. We are owners when frustrated can be demanding and with strong opinions. A GM must have a personality that can work daily with other strong personalities without it spiraling into personal confrontations and power struggles. A GM has to be able to communicate effectively with all types of people and not wilt when being challenged. Dealing with demanding owners can take some metal as well. We as owners are more sensitive when things aren’t going our way and we want a GM (Smitty) to take bullets for us. Bottom line Smitty and DC Nation is a GREAT resource and the best option as a General Manager for Fantasy Football Owners Everywhere!

Bold Prediction: Until Smitty calls it quits he’s the best GM out there.

    The Shmily Guy “)

  16. What a bunch a f’n cry babies. First of all..this is just Fantasy Football for petes sake. It’s not like Smitty gave you advice on the stock market and you just lost your retirement. It’s supposed to be for entertainment only so you all should take a step back and figure out what is important in your life. 2nd-ly what did it cost you to join up? I forget $50 perhaps…divided by about 20 weeks if you joined up in August, that means it is costing you a big $2.50 per week or $.36 a day. I’m sure just for entertainment value of what the site offers is worth your hard earned $.36/day. For you noobs to Smitty, I am a noob on this site but knew of hin at FFxtreme, he has hit on quite a few of his predictions and I specifically came here to get his takes. So quit your whining, step away from your computer and get out of out of your parents basement for a little bit till you feel better about the horror of your 2-4 fantasy team.

  17. Last year I picked up Doug Martin, Dez Bryant and Russell Wilson because of this site. Crappy start but ended up dominating my league. I also picked up J. Rodgers and some other upside guys I ended up dumping. But that is the beauty of this site, there are recommendations throughout the year to help you adjust.
This year, I have guys like TRich, Miller, AJG, Josh Gordon, TY, Julius Thomas because of this site. If you picked up David Wilson in the 4th round or Jared Cook at the end of the draft, you adjust. If you reached, then you used the upside board incorrectly, and you hurt yourself, which Smitty has consistently said to avoid. Because Cook was ranked in the top 3, doesnt mean pick him up right after Graham at the beginning of your draft. If you have Wilson or Ball, hopefully you got a couple stud WRs while everyone was snagging RBs the first couple rounds.

  18. WOW! is the only word I can think when I read these comments…

You know what? THANK YOU SMITTY! While all of these people whine about how you somehow ruined their seasons I will thank you because you saved mine with your predictions.

I have a team that I went WR-WR with because of you and I was able to land a Wr core of Dez, Julio, etc. and I still get to have high upside guys on my bench that were listed on the Upside Board. Because of Smitty I was able to replace my injured Julio with Josh Gordon.

Because of my WR strategy I was weak at RB. MY #1 RB, McFadden, gets hurt… but GUESS WHAT??? I was able to plug Gio Bernard in so far and still get great production from him.

Not to mention that I also have guys like Ball, Givens, EJ, etc on my bench because of your predictions but they aren’t hurting me one bit right now because I did things the way that you constantly told us to. While many people may say it is a down year, I think that it is a great one!!!

Smitty’s predictions have basically saved my season and my dynasty to this point. So again thank you and to the other commenters, if you would build your teams with proven guys and then reap the benefits of the upside board guys, like you Smitty says to do, then all of this wouldn’t even be a conversation right now…

  19. Some of these short sided comments are a joke. I have been playing fantasy football since the days of the USA today weekly release then adding stats by hand. About 18 yrs now. I have paid for all kinds of sites over the years and there is NO DOUBT that Smitty made FFX and DC what they are today. If you want the run of the mill fantasy advice, go to nfl.com and get the fantasy hall of famer (haha) Fabiano’s take for FREE.

In my big $$ dynasty league, I grabbed guys like Cam, R Rice, D Martin, A Foster, V Cruz, J Graham…the list goes on and on. Hell, I got laughed out of the room when I took Victor Cruz at the 10.2 pick. Who is laughing now?

Yes, it has been a rough start for 2013, but we are a long way from the end here. The bottom line is this; the BOLD predictions are called BOLD for a reason. Smitty would call them Safe predictions if they were….they are NOT. It is all about value. If you jumped on guys from the list early, that is ON YOU.

You don’t build dynasty’s and will multiple leagues by playing it “safe”. I have hit on so many guys off of the bold prediction list that I will never bail following one down year (again, it’s early).

Smitty- please, don’t change a thing. Your loyal following speaks for itself.

  20. wow…had no idea this conversation was even going on…bottom line is that we participate in fantasy football cause its fun…we then read others “opinions” on something we find fun and label that information as entertaining leisurely reading…off to a good start…that’s where we separate the folks that take leisurely reading and formulate their own ideas and strategies from the folks that bitch about stuff that doesn’t actually hold up…don’t be the guy that loses and cries, “but a sites projections said greg olsen was gonna beast this year”….you sound like a child…a loser…pathetic…luv u godfather

  22. I can either trade Moreno or Spiller straight up for D Martin .5 ppr 12 team league all tds worth 6. As i stated in previous posts , We get 1 player to keep a year. You can keep that player up to 3 years , moving up 1 round each year example Spiller next year 2014 6th round keeper , 2015 5th round keeper, 2016 4th round keeper. We can only keep 1 player! Moreno would be a 13th round keeper next year, and Spiller would be a 6th round keeper. Martin was a 1st round pick so he would be a 1st round keeper , not much value but I want to try and win right now . Below is my team , 3-3 this year well within playoff striking distance . Next to each name is the round they would be kept in 2014. So am I better off going into playoffs with Martin, Spiller, L Miller , option 2 Moreno, Martin, L Miller or stay put Spiller, Moreno, L Miller. Moreno would be a 13th round keeper next year , can he keep producing like this again!

    QB Stafford 6

    RB Spiller 6

    RB Miller 6

    WR Dez 3

    WR Marshall 2

    TE J Thomas 15

    Flex Moreno 13 , or K Allen 16

    Bench

Harvin 14, Andre Brown, McGahee, Hopkins 9, Stacy 16, Ball 5

  23. Smitty,

Please don’t get rid of the upside board. Just label it “not for the weak” or something. Upside board is a big reason I followed you from FFX. People need to understand this is fantasy football, anything can happen. The best team can still lose in the playoffs and an average team can still win a championship.

    • It isn’t going anywhere, don’t worry, I will just remove 2nd and 3rd rounders from the equation, and make it more like the Victor Cruz types of the past… guys that can’t sink your season if they completely miss, but guys that can win a league if they land. I have never had a bad year in terms of the upside board, or the bold predictions as they were called in years past… That’s 8 solid years of it, so 1 down-ish year is imaginable every 9 years.

  24. Plain and simple, you complainers are not using the resources that this site provides correctly. Smitty provides great insight and knowledge for us to use to help manage our teams, but in the end, you have to have a little knowledge yourself as well. Smitty had Miller, Ball and Wilson on the the “upside board”, it doesn’t mean that you should plan on having those guys as your starting RB’s heading into the season, it just means that if the value is right, you jump on it.

Since joining DC, I have had several start up dynasty drafts with fellow DCers. Most of them I implemented my own knowledge and mixed in Smitty advise and had great success. In my last startup before the season, I went pure upside, reaching for Miller and Wilson in the 2nd round (which Smitty advised over and over NOT to do) well, that team is 0-7. Point is, learn to use Smitty’s advice correctly before you come on here and judge the man.

By the way, I went against one of Smitty’s upside guys and refused to believe that he would be anything more then a handcuff. I traded him away in every league (not for much) and very much regret it. This player was not touted by anyone but Smitty and he goes by the name of Shane Vereen.

Smitty, I hope you know that every analyst is going to have naysayers, but you are the only analyst I know of that has a super Mob that will always have your back and believe in you. All hail Smitty!!
