Week 11 Waiver Wire Advice

[level-all]
Rishard Matthews – WR MIA
Rishard Matthews, who had 10 catches on the year prior Monday night, dropped 11 receptions for 120 yards and 2TDs in Week 11. Here is the deal… he could easily vanish into the fantasy night, it happens all the time, but something tells me this kid has some serious upside. Upside and talent doesn’t always translate, and so much has to do with opportunity… and keep in mind we’re talking about a guy playing for a team that has misused Lamar Miller all season long… however, Matthews truly looked beast-like on several occasions last night, and I’m grabbing him in every dynasty league I can. I recommend the same for all of you!
Mark Ingram – RB NO
Mark Ingram’s situation is frustrating. His situation reminds me of the situations of both Lamar Miller and Trent Richardson. Ingram is a serious talent. He is. It’s hard to remember that when the end result is disappointing game after game, year after year, but that’s why there is a huge difference between talent and end result. On another team, let’s say Seattle (with no Lynch of course), Ingram would be an absolute beast. New Orleans refuses to commit to him for some reason, and that may never change… and that’s why Ingram is an upside guy at this point, but attached to a whole grip of caution. Maybe after his 145-yard effort in Week 10 his coaching staff will give him some more run. If they do, I think he will do well, but it’s tough to count on him getting that run. His 145 yards last night makes him a must-own while we wait, that’s for certain, though.
Bobby Rainey – RB TB
If you haven’t heard, Mike James fractured his ankle in Week 10, and Brian Leonard was shoved into the starting role, and he rushed the ball 20 times for 57 yards. Honestly, Bobby Rainey looked the best of the two rushers, but it’s tough to predict this kind of thing so early on. Stay on the news heading into your waiver wire deadline for Week 11, but if forced to decide who to own in TB moving forward, I say Rainey!
Brian Leonard – RB TB
As stated above, Brian Leonard appeared to be the main back off the bench once Mike James went down in Week 10, but Bobby Rainey could be the better grab, and a decent flex-like play down the stretch (if he in fact gets the bulk of carries).
Ryan Fitzpatrick – QB TEN
In need of a decent QB? Jake Locker (foot) is done for the year, and while Ryan Fitzpatrick is no Nick Foles (one of our top recommends just over two weeks ago), the guy can throw for 200 and 2 on occasion.
Da’Rick Rogers – WR IND
The Colts have promoted receiver Da’Rick Rogers from the practice squad. It’s tough to say whether or not he gets many targets, but he is a player to monitor in dynasty.

- Probably Not Available, But Check!

Shane Vereen – RB NE
He’s back this week from injury! You’d have to be in a pretty small, and dead, league for Shane Vereen to be available on waivers, but I gotta say it! Look just in case!
Percy Harvin – WR SEA
Everything I said above for Shane Vereen applies here. Stay on the news, though, things change fast with players returning from long injuries.

Buy-Low Heading Into Week 11
- Three Players To Go Get
-
[level-all]
Andrew Luck – QB IND
While you won’t steal him away from anyone in dynasty, his poor Week 10 outing might have a few owners worried, especially if those dynasty owners are worried about winning games and securing a playoff spot this season. Take a stab at buying low, because this guy is a top 1-3 fantasy quarterback of the future, and arguably a top 3-4 fantasy quarterback down the stretch here in 2013.
Ben Tate – RB HOU
With Arian Foster extremely questionable for Weeks 11+, this is one of those situations where the writing will have been on the wall in hindsight. Could Tate just not play as well as expected due to the rib injuries? Sure, it’s possible, but given the cost, this runner is worth investing in, as he is capable of top 10RB numbers, or higher, if given the carries (and assuming he stays on the field).
Bernard Pierce – RB BAL
Ray Rice just looks awful. Injured or not, you have to wonder if he is just flat-out done as an elite runner. He is a smaller rusher, and he has taken a beating. Well, if he is done, you have to think Bernard Pierce will get a nice shot here down the stretch in 2013. Now, there is a chance Rice’s 2013 struggles have much to do with his hip injury, and he could bounce-back next year, or even in the final couple weeks of the season… that’s tough to predict at this point. All I know, though, is that the risk is low for Pierce owners, or prospective owners, and the reward is through the roof. Word is that the team will use a ‘hot hand’ approach with the running back stable moving forward — this should open the door for Pierce, so let’s see if he runs through that opening!
[/level-all]
If both Ingram and Pierce are dangling on the waiver wire, who would you grab? Would you grab them before Rainey/Leonard? And would you drop David Wilson for any of these players? I will be dropping Mike James, but wondered if I should drop Wilson and grab a second one. This fantasy season is just nuts….
This season is nuts. Just look at this year’s top 25 prior to Week 1. It’s completely flipped upside down. No one could have predicted all the busts and injuries this year. Doug Martin, Arian Foster (we were more cautious than most), Julio Jones, Trent Richardson, Aaron Rodgers, Ray Rice, the list goes on and on and on…
I think all those waiver rushers are close. Rainey is solid, I just can’t tell if TB is going to use a RBBC or not. If they do, he has far less value, but he seems Mike James capable in terms of numbers for sure. Ingram is a player I’ve always liked and he is wasting away in NO. Not sure they will learn anything new when it comes to Ingram. He is worth owning if you can grab him, but not sure Ingram is the man just yet. Rice could get less carries than Pierce one game, then bounce-back shortly after. Nothing is for sure or easy with this group. I have ranked the add/drops in order, so Pierce is clearly my 1, Ingram my 2, but there are still a lot of things to consider, so your question is still a good one. If you need a home run and don’t have to play the player, Pierce is the guy. Rainey then Ingram seems to be the player I’d grab if I had to have immediate production.
As far as dropping Wilson in dynasty isn’t something I’d do just yet.
Funny that in my 16 team dynasty looks like I can finally activate Harvin and Vereen from my IR! Like these articles Smitty, good work bro
Thanks. Hopefully those two do well for you.
I like what I saw from Matthews last night also, wish they would commit to Miller though
Yeah, it’s not Miller’s fault or lack of talent. Matthews could be outstanding if given the chance, I think.
Ok Smitty for my flex option I have Andre brown, Shane Vereen or Percy harvin. I want to let Percy and Vereen get a game under there belt before I play them but I just wanted to know wht your take was?
Brown has the edge on my projections. I think I’d roll with him, but Vereen will have something to say about that soon I hope!
Both Bernard Pierce and Ray Rice have averaged under 3YPC this season, and reports are they will go with the hot hand each week. Pierce could still be a buy-low guy but consider this a word of caution.
And as stated above, Rice could rebound later after he heals up during this RBBC phase. So caution all around, but upside given the risk, as no one values Pierce very high.
Smitty,
Still looking for a TE.
I have garrett graham and Tim wright (both suck)
I can pick up
D.walker
Pettigrew
Carlson
Housler
What do you think?
I like Graham I think, then Wright, so keep em. Carlson has some appeal, but I stick with the two you have. Wright just needs a passer. Graham has one, he could do well down the stretch.
Dynasty
Dump bowe who is on my bench each week for
R cooper. Or matthews ?
Cooper has earned this call, but Matthews is a dynasty snag and player to watch!
smitty what is fair trade value for j charles in dynasty lgs ppr as far as wr rb qb
I’d say look at the updated rankings. Any WR or RB right next to him is where I value him. He is as good as anyone outside of AP, for now. Things change fast with RBs in this league, but Charles is easily near the top WR, or at least a top 3WR, and easily near the top 2-4RBs. IMO.
RBs don’t last as long these days, so I wouldn’t trade AJG, Calvin, Dez or Julio for him, I was just answering value wise. I think he is right there after those four, though. But trade value wise, he is arguably as good.
Hey smitty I’m looking for your advice in this big trade NON ppr. ..my team luck charles tate lamar miller shane vereen ty gordon cruz keenan allen julius cameron…
With all of that and sitting at 4th place would you trade vereen and steven jackson for cj spiller.. is this too much?? spillers has been banged up all year and I don’t wanna lose vereen. But cj plays jax and miami in our playoffs..
cuse, that’s a tough one. Spiller may never rebound. It’s tough to know how healthy he really is, and how much the team plans to use him. Vereen seems safer in PPR, at least for this year. That said, what if Vereen isn’t near 100 percent like we think? It’s a tough call, one I would poll on our forums before you make moves. Get group think going on this one, it’s worth more than one opinion no matter who’s opinion you get.
Hey Smitty! My leagues trade deadline is this Friday and an owner offered me this:
His Gronk for my Brandon Marshall
I am in a 12 team, REDRAFT, non-ppr league, all TD’s are 6 pts, standard scoring. We start 1 QB, 2 RB’s, 3 WR’s, 1 TE/K/Def
I am currently 5-4-1 and fighting for my playoff life.
My roster:
QB: R.Wilson, Eli
WR: Marshall, Gordon, Allen, Harvin
RB: Moreno, L.Miller, P. Thomas, Ball, D. Thomas, B.Pierce, D.Johnson
TE: H.Miller
Harvin would replace Marshall and Gronk would replace Heath.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
I’m not so sure this move is doing much for you until we know how well Harvin is going to play. And, do we trust him already before he even plays a down? Can you go bigger here, maybe trade Moreno on the high and do a Moreno and Marshall for a sneaky-better (underrated) RB and Gronk?
If not, I’m not saying you won’t score more, you probably will… but that’s if Harvin stays healthy, something that’s near impossible to predict at this point. If you believe he will stay healthy, you probably score more, so it’s not a bad move on paper.
Hey Smitty, the above owner backed out. However I was offered his Jordan Reed for my Percy Harvin. Since Percy is my 4th WR and Reed is a nice upgrade from Heath Miller; should I pull the trigger?
Thanks!
If dynasty, I say yes, I like Reed a lot. Redraft, tough one, because Harvin’s value is still very low. He could get you more if you wait, but I don’t trust him, as you never know when he will get hurt and you lose your chance to trade him entirely.
