This is my deep sleeper rookie running back of 2013! Latavius Murray is a huge kid at 6’2″ almost 230 lbs, and he is blazing fast, running a sub 4.40 forty. He played in a pro style offense at UCF and his running style has recently been compared to [level-all]Darren McFadden, the very injury prone rusher Murray just happens to be backing up this year. Last year, at UCF, Murray carried the ball 198 times for 1,106 yards (5.6 YPC), 15 rushing TDs and hauled in 27 catches for 231 yards and 4 receiving TDs. Murray has been going in the 4th round of most rookie drafts this year, and even undrafted in some, making him well worth the risk to attain this off-season. Murray also makes McFadden far less risky to own this year IMO, as his size, speed and skill set should allow him to step right in and play the same role as DMac if DMac goes down with another injury. I think he is a must-have handcuff for DMac owners going forward. You might have to sit on this kid for a little while if you draft him, but I think he could be well worth the wait and pay off big time.

Nice write-up, JRMRRT! Great player to bring up!
Thanks Smitty…I drafted Murray in DC 1 dynaty league and traded for the DMac/Murray combo in 2 other DC leagues so Im standing by my call. Hope he pans out. Just realize that he is a deep sleeper so dont pay too much.
Agreed! It’s important to keep that in mind, that he is cheap now, so buy low. Great stash-type player, though! Bernard Pierce is my current stash play, and “must-have” handcuff for all Rice owners. Sounds like this is your version of Pierce (creative grab for non-DMac owners, and must-have for those that do own DMac).
Nice work JR! I’m feeling the same about Ellington and he’s been my sleeper for quite some time now. Murray looks every bit of a sleeper so good call.
Nice little write-up JR, I didn’t really have any idea who this guy was but will be looking to stash him in my non dc dynasties at least. I just can’t trust McFadden to stay healthy
I don’t really trust DMac either greatprodigy but having Murray who plays so similarly to him makes me much more confident in the duo.
Nice job JR. The guy has an Arian Foster aura about him. He’s worthy of a roster spot in my keeper league for sure!! Thanks!
He is a smooth runner. He will need opportunity to steal the show, but with Foster as an example, where a guy gets drafted means nothing sometimes. My Bernard Pierce is another example.
Bernard Pierce
Latavius Murray
Shane Vereen
Isaiah Pead
Johnathan Franklin
These are five, in no particular order, some deep, deep sleepers to target, folks. You want a rags to riches story, one of these could certainly write such a tale!
Totally agree Smitty. Their landing spot and team situation are important factors in finding a gem. I’m thinking Murray might be number one on your list?
No, I’ll rank that list in an Article soon-to-post! Murray isn’t 1, though, he is JRMRRT’s top sleeper, I’m just along for the ride attaching him to the tail-end of my list.
Hey Smitty! I gave next year’s 3rd rounder to take LMurray at 4.03. Also grabbed Stacy at 1.10, Denard at 2.10, & Matt Scott at 5.10, so if my team sucks this year (esp. since I also own Trent, AP, Wilson, Dez & Pead), IT’S YOUR FAULT lol!
Also wanted to revisit our talk about trading DEMARCO Murray in a 10-team league for the 1.02; I haven’t talked with the 1.02 owner yet, but I’m confident he’ll take DMurray & Jon Baldwin for the 1.02, 3.02 & Philip Rivers (GO or NO?). Demarco’s got some big upside, right?. Talk me into giving him up for one or our 2013 BIG GUNS again, please, & clarify Demarco’s market worth in the context of this offer.
Finally, back to my LMurray/Stacy/Denard team (12 teams):
Would you consider trading Peterson to get Calvin Johnson? Megatron’s owner drafted Johnathan Franklin (1.09) & Step Taylor (3.09), and is scrambling for RBs.
I thought of offering AP(DC$63)/Mendenhal($18)/SRice($9) for Megatron($51)/Franklin($28)/2014 1st. I know you are constantly warning me NOT to sell AP low. Break it down for me. Thanks.
I never said to grab every combination you have, but, Trent, Dez, Wilson, Pead, all guys I like Murray is more JR’s guy/pick, but I do like him. Denard is a very, very deep project type, nothing to ride your season on. Stacy/Pead should do you right at some point in 2013, but as I’ve said all along, that’s a secret RB3/Flex combo that should payoff, but at cheap cost. So, none of Murray, Stacy, Pead or Denard should have anything to do with your team sucking :), nor did i ever say go get all of the dark horses and place them on one roster — all have been “buy-low” recommendations all year anyway, though. Trent, Dez, Wilson are all guys I’ve been all over over the past two years, so I guess you can aim some blame at me there if it doesn’t go so well for you in 2013 :), but as you know, and as I always say, use my advice to guide you when on the fence… trusting your own gut is more important! Dez has already done you right, so I’m ahead of the game in your eyes already, right?
Nice job with Dez, Trent, studs.
Id rather have Murray than the 1.02 and Id take Calvin for AP in a PPR.
Ok, as for the trades… I like the 1.02 for Murray, no question. Murray is just too risky, and with Ball or Bell as your swap, in a heartbeat for either! Ball first, but live both.
Ap for Calvin? Tough one, but I do worry about AP lasting much longer! What’s your entire roster? Who would your starting RBs be?
Just teasing about it all being on you lol. You’re not just ahead in the game–you’re the front-runner, imo! I’ve been watchin Stacy & LMurray since last season. I also took Denard, Kelce, Matt Scott & Charles Johnson, and I really like ‘em all. I enjoy the draft as much as any of it, & to tell you the truth, I think I’d rather hit a home run on a sleeper than win the league! I’m sick, I know lol.
My roster is just decent, but I like it (12-team ppr):
Trent/AP/Dez/Wallace/Luck/VDavis/DWilson/Mendenhal/MiFloyd/
Pead/SRice/Bradford/Hankerson/Denario/DRich/Stacy/Denard/
Kelce/LMurray/MScott/ChJohnsn/Doss/Housler.
I like my other team a bit more (10-team ppr):
Trent/Lynch/Charles/Murray/MBush/Hillmn/Julio/Nicks/Welker/
Gordon/Torrey/Jennings/WillmsTB/Baldwin/Streater/Toon/Witten/
Cook/Pitta/Olsen/Stafford/Freeman/Locker.
You read my mind about AP’s age, which is why I’d like to sell now.
Don’t guess I can’t do better than Megatron & a pick or two, eh?
Lynch has me concerned, with his back spasms, dui & the Turbin/Michael developments, and since the 1.01 has Turbin & won’t give him up, I’ve been seriously considering dealing him and Demarco to get the 1.01 AND 1.02 in our upcoming rookie draft. With my 1.10, and the extras I’d require, I could probably morph an already-devastating roster into a WORLD-BEATER!
So, Smitty says 1.02=Demarco; not sure I’d do it straight up, but that’s the kind of baseline I’m looking for, and:
AP=Megatron plus a small equalizer (?).
I need a baseline market value for Lynch in case our targets fall to the 1.03-1.06 range. We already decided we’re OK giving Lynch/Pitta for Lamar Miller, Shane Vereen and the 1.07. The 1.01 owner described Mike Williams(TB) and Wes Welker as “intriguing”, but I don’t see it with his roster; Ivory, the 2.01 & 2.06 are all he has that I like, & maybe DJax, if you see value there. His SeaDst is a good add for my team.
How much more than the 1.01 & Ivory should Lynch bring? We can trade 2014 & 2015 draft picks.
Ok, I trade AP for Calvin in your situation in a heartbeat, but get more if you can, that’s always advised! Agree with JR on this one! Your RB depth is fine, with TRich and D-Wilson leading the way. What a great young crew!
As for DeMarco, I take Montee Ball or Le’Veon Bell over him in a second, but again, as said above, get more if you can.
1.01 and Ivory for Lynch is solid in my eyes, but the market value suggests you should get more? If you run into resistance, I just go ahead and do it, regardless of what others say. Miller is a rising star, and reach for him a bit value wise in a trade is just fine IMO when that reach is nothing compared to the potential value explosion the player could see. Miller is that potential beast.
Great rosters. I think that covers it all. Keep up the active management.
Speaking of Bell…do you flip CJxK for Bell straight up? .5 PPR, 11 pts TD…
