Im in a 10 team start-up dynasty league and we are drafting on August 1st and I have the 7th pick, this is also the first time any of us have ever played dynasty. Since this is a startup draft im tempted to find a way to trade back into the 2nd round to lock up another young stud but im unsure if its really worth it. I would assume for me to lock up the 2.05 I would need to throw something decent his way but im unsure of what that would require. Using the pick calc on your site it looks like if I were to give him my 3rd and 6th round picks that its a good deal for him but im unsure if an owed is really going to go for something like.
Can I get a little advice on how to trade picks and how to value them?
I recently traded up to own 3 first round picks in my 12 team dynasty start-up
1.06
1.10
1.12
It was pretty easy, in retrospect. Was it worth it? We'll see.

I don't advise trading down in a 10 team startup. depth isn't really an issue in leagues that small, whereas studs will win you championships. you'd be giving up matthews or Trich just so you could pick up another hakeem nicks type. You need to try to get as many top positional performers as you can, and worry about depth on the waiver wire. I play in almost exclusively 10-team leagues and know from experience that deep teams never win it all. It's whoever has that year's LT or Foster or Gronk.
That said, if you still want to trade down, you should be giving your 1st and a 5th for a second and 3rd, generally speaking. I wouldn't trade down for anything less than that, regardless what trade calcs say

According to a calculator this looks good but does it make sense?
Give 3.07 and 5.07
get 2.03 and 7.06

I don't mind trading up in a 10 teamer. This should get you something like TR, Brees, and Forte to build around
