Advice for a 1st time IDP'er
  • BK19BK19
    Posts: 65
So, I joined an IDP league for the first time today and I have never done one before so I am looking for any advice that I can get on it.

    1. What IDP postions are worth the most?
    2. any strategies that work the best?
    3. Idp sleepers
    4. Anything else you can think of to help a new IDP guy
    Thank you

Check your scoring, what are tackles worth, sacks, PD, Ints

Do you play with just DL or are they broken down into DT and DE, same for DB are the CB and SS?

    Starting requirements?

    Thanks

    1. The positions worth the most totally depend on your scoring. Is it tackle heavy? Big play? Combination of both? Are defensive stats equal to offensive stats?

    2. My strategies vary on the league, but generally I'd look for stud lbs. But again it depends on the scoring. If this is an initial draft, don't jump for defensive guys over offensive guys. Idp players come and go each year.

    3. I'll get back to you on guys to look for and sleepers. I haven't dug to deep into all the changes this year.

    4. Just keep asking questions as you go through your draft. There are plenty of guys that will offer advice.

Bucky and Boobam are correct and with your scoring rules it looks like a heavy IDP league points wise.  If you can - go to player stats from last year just to see how everyone ended up that way you'll have a clearer picture to start from.

As Bucky stated: If this is an initial draft, don't jump for defensive guys over offensive guys. Idp players come and go each year.

Try to be the beginning of a run though on LB's though they usually go in bunches.

    have fun and good luck

Navarro Bowman, Karlos Dansby, and Lavonte David scored in the Calvin/Marshall/ AJG range

JJ Watt, Antrel Rolle, Barry Church, Eric Berry, & Kyle Williams were the only IDP players (non LBs) to be in the top 100 scorers in this league

For me personally, I would build my team around LBs...scheme changes and FA make the DL and DB change drastically from year to year...outside of JJ Watt the past 2 years the top 10 scorers change a lot from year to year and DB are even worse to try to guess. In most leagues Church was a FA going into week 3 if that tells you anything...

Like Bucky said, keep the forum posted on how the draft is going, lots of interested helpers are here....let someone else draft Kuechly in the 6th round...we can grab a guy like Audie Cole in the 19th and only lose out on 3 points a week at that position and grab a much better offensive guy in the 6th!

I would love to have a new dynasty league starting up to draft all over again, big time learning curve! Enjoy it

I actually just took this team over as an orphan, 14 Team IDP league. I figured that I would rather learn with a team that was already built since I had 0 IDP knowledge, so here is what I have when it comes to the IDP portion:

    Kelly, Tommy NEP DT
    Knighton, Terrance DEN DT
    Allen, Jared CHI DE
    Clayborn, Adrian TBB DE
    Beason, Jon NYG LB
    Bradham, Nigel BUF LB
    Davis, Demario NYJ LB
    Laurinaitis, James STL LB
    Lofton, Curtis NOS LB
    McCarthy, Colin TEN LB
    Paysinger, Spencer NYG LB
    Wright, K.J. SEA LB
    Bowman, Zackary NYG CB
    McCourty, Jason TEN CB
    Chancellor, Kam SEA S
    Doughty, Reed WAS S
    Williams, Aaron BUF S

    I do have rookie picks - 1.3, 1.4, 1.10, 2.4, 2.14, 3.3, 3.4, 4.4, 5.4, 6.4, 7.4 though

Is there a link to the league site we can take a look at?  Your LBs look a little rough, just curious as to what players might be available on waivers and past draft history as to where teams are selecting the top IDP players.

Yeah here is a link to the league: http://www12.myfantasyleague.com/2014/home/13552#0

It looks like they take IDP rookies late in round 1 - early round 2. Blind bid waivers are supposed to happen sometime soon now that I joined, so if there is someone out there you guys think I should go after, let me know.

Audie Cole is best LB on waivers.

Bid minimum amount on Michael Wilhoite SF, he should be Bowman's backup (who will be out to start the season).

The waiver wire sure is thin, I was hoping Minter would be there for you but no dice.

I'd keep an eye on Dre Kirkpatrick and Darius Slay at CB. Both should be seeing increased opportunities soon. Do some research on McCarthy, the Titans are switching to a 3_4 and he could be moved into the starting lineup. Another FA to look into is Koa Misi. I thought I read he might be moved inside, so double check that.

Dre is who I'd be after

Here's the blurb from rotoworld I saw.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins are toying with the idea of moving SLB Koa Misi to middle linebacker.
    The
Dolphins seem intent on getting MLB Dannell Ellerbe to one of the
outside spots. Misi is an excellent run defender and can cover a little
bit. At 6-foot-3 and 251 pounds, he definitely has the size to make
the move. Despite earning less cash than Ellerbe and WLB Philip
Wheeler, Misi is easily Miami's best 'backer. Mar 16 - 11:14 AM

Thank you guys! Waivers just started and we have 12 days to get this so I have plenty of time to figure out something.

I also just saw on twitter that Ryan Clark signed with the Redskins.  He'll easily step into a starting role with them at safety.  However he is a little long in the tooth.  Could be a cheap option off the waiver wire.

    Audi Cole
    Ryan Clark
    Dre Kirkpatrick
    Darius Slay
    Koa Misi
    Michael Wilhoite

We have 1000 for the offseason and season, what should I be looking to bid on these guys?

Wilhoite $1, he should be off everybody's radar.

Misi and Cole are probably worth the most.
