Maurice Jones-Drew: Sell-High?

I know MJD had a monster 2011 season, but when should fantasy owners sell-high? Clearly I'm thinking mostly dynasty/keeper, but even if you draft him in upcoming 2012 redraft leagues, should fantasy owners ride the wave a bit, then sell the little guy by mid-season? Thoughts on both scenarios (2012 redraft leagues and also dynasty formats)?

Now is the time to turn MJD into a Murray, Mathews or T Rich and hopefully get a little something extra in the deal.

Great list of names. I agree. I love MJD, I do, but I'd rather be a year early on selling him than not get a chance to invest in a monster sleeper that could be just as good in a couple years. Yes, you gotta land that player in your swap, but that's the fun part.

All three of Mathews, Murray and T-Rich could go crazy this year. Can you believe Mathews' ADP is in the first round now (1.09-1.12 ish)? Not that he can't earn that, but he is no kind of sleeper entering this season, that's for sure.

I think that it really depends on your team situation. If you are set to make the run I ride him out. If you are in the middle of the pack I would move him. Im sure this goes against my previous thoughts but if I can find him for the right price I would buy. The key is I wouldn't give up a Matthews or Murray to get him. It really depends on your situation

As for Matthews being a sleeper I really don't see it. Like Smitty said h is going in the first round. That not sleeper material any more. The fact that they didn't bring in another rb speaks volumes about how they feel about him

i am not selling MJD right now....one of what 5 or 6 rbs that actually dont have a rbbc he is worth a ton...but i would expect more than a murray / or TR for him.. matthews would be a nice trade with a little extra..

what would that extra be with each of these RBS to trade MJD for? you guys got me thinking maybe not such a bad idea if enough extra can be attained..

I'm wondering the same thing. I own MJD in a league I won last year, but don't really have any picks to maneuver with since I trade them away to make a run at a championship. If I attempted to trade for the 1.1, what what else would be a reasonable pick to include? He has the 1.01, 1.07, 1.08, 1.11, 1.12, 2.01, 2.11 and 2.12.

Im thinking if you have a mid 2nd and he has like the 1.07 you could at least swap picks and move up. Also get younger and prob have similar production. Thats how you keep a dominant team IMO and avoid troublesome rebuilds.

That's pretty much how I feel, moving him really depends on your individual team situation. Certainly he is at the peak of his value, this is likely the last year you'll get RB1 value out of him in trade.

Bubba's Bruisers gave up Jackson, Steven STL RB;Johnson, Steve BUF WR;Suggs, Terrell BAL DE; Year 2012 Round 1 Draft Pick from The SanchiseJayhawk Blood gave up Jones-Drew, Maurice JAC RBI made this trade trying to upgrade my RB's. I've won this league 4 years out of 5. I came in second this last year. Your post about MJD have me second guessing myself. The 1st round draft pick was #8. Did I give up too much. Here's my roster:

guess i will ride him out or do i need consider blow this up and getting younger in your guys opinion?

MJD is a prime candidate to sell high, especially if you are not going to contend in 2012.

I think this is key. If your a contender I say hold as he is still solid but if your a middle of the road team or lower he's still young enough that you can probably demand and get a decent package for him. I own him a would want a 1.05 or better pick plus either a wr1 or rb1.

I agree with Junkie....if you are not in contention and feel you can rebuild you should still be able to get a good bounty for him and rebuild.

Man... this thread has got me thinking ever since it was posted. I own MJD in a league that starts 2-3 RB's and my other RB's are McCoy, Mathews, Turner, Sproles and Spiller. I won the title in 2010 and went 13-0 last year but lost in the semi finals so I am definitely in win now mode. Like everyone else, I'm always trying to move players just before their value plummets but I don't know if MJD is really at that point yet although his workload would surely suggest that the time is coming.

I've already tried to move him for Foster and DMac but was denied. What RB's would make for good targets in a deal for MJD?

Since you already own Mathews I would target Murray or Richardson. You might be able to get a little extra too.

I don't think I can get 1.01 from the owner. He's in complete rebuild mode right now so it wouldn't make sense for him. I thought about Murray but how much more should I expect in return do you think?

What else does he have in terms of players and picks?

Just the topic I needed to see. I have MJD in two leagues and have been passively trying to move him in both but it's been tough to find something that works. 1 league I am in contention, 1 I'm not.

However, I agree with Doggie that I don't think he's at that point yet. I am giving him 1 more year before I really try to move him.

The time to sell is usually when you think you have one more year...not when that year is up. If you can turn him into a guy like Mathews, Murray or T Rich Id jump on it and stay ahead of the curve. Thats how you avoid nasty rebuilds.
