Coby Fleener making 'big-time NFL plays,' coordinator says

(12:07 pm ET) Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is raving about Coby Fleener. Hamilton told the team website the second-year tight end is "a lot more explosive and confident right now. He's making plays that big-time NFL players tend to make."
Fleener caught 26 balls last year, 19 fewer than fellow rookie tight end Dwayne Allen.

I hear Matt Flynn is wowing coaches too. How is this related? Think about it...

Fleener is one of my top breakout players for 2013.

I read this as well. Maybe junkie was right, Fleener is the te to own in Indy.

Allen is clearly the superior talent in my opinion and he will emerge this year.

Is it safe to assume that one or the other will breakout? Two years ago I invested in Gronkowski and Hernandez in a redraft when they broke out (Gronk more then Hernandez, but still Hernandez was good when healthy). This year, if the thought process is to get Graham early or get 2 TEs late, would it be wise to invest late picks in both Fleener and Allen or better to diversify and grab the "better" one and go elsewhere for another lottery ticket? (I know Jared Cook is the hot name to break out, but it's quite possible other league mates think the same thing).

There's nothing to suggest Allen is the superior talent, just the stat that shows he played more games due to Fleener being injured for most of the season. It doesn't mean "he's better".

Here's how I see Fleener and Allen compared to other two TE friendly teams.

This group is the superior athlete who can stretch the field: Fleener=Pitta=Gronk=Eifert=Davis

This group plays closer to the line and catches more underneath passes: Allen=Dickson=Hernandez=Gresham=Walker(now with TEN)

I can agree with that.

I politely disagree. You've just stated Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen are/will be in the same ball park of Rob Gronkowski, even in terms of schemes. Let that sink in for awhile. Catching underneath passes is one thing, but that previous statement is (imo) so far off.

Colts GM Ryan Grigson pinpointed TE Coby Fleener as the team's second-year player poised for the biggest leap.
"He’s a guy that you knew had speed, had size being 6-foot-6 and running 4.51," said Grigson. "You know he could be a tough mismatch downfield because he could play above the rim." Grigson said Fleener is making "Wow" plays in camp, and "it’s really come across like he’s ready to have a great year." While Dwayne Allen and Reggie Wayne handle short to intermediate pass-catching duties, Grigson says the Colts "want (Fleener) to be a threat downfield."

So big play ability (Fleener) vs. PPR moving the chains (Allen). I can't wait to see how this duo plays out over the course of the season.
