  According to the New York Daily News, unless Smith has a horrific camp (which so far looks nearly impossible), the former West Virginia talent will be the New York Jets starting quarterback when the season begins:

  In fact, Smith really isn’t even competing against Sanchez.

  The rookie will be the Jets starter this season when the organization believes that he’s ready. General manager John Idzik must find out if Smith can be a franchise quarterback at some point this season before determining whether or not to select a signal-caller in next year’s draft.

  Idzik admittedly will have a “pretty big role” in deciding the Week 1 quarterback, but there’s no reason to unnecessarily accelerate Smith’s learning process.

  Make no mistake: Smith will be the starter against the Buccaneers on Sept. 8 if he’s sharp in the preseason. Sanchez’s performance, rightly or wrongly, won’t matter.

  Ehh...I don't think that beating out Sanchez means you will turn water (the jets offense) into wine (fantasy points). I'm not trying to be smart, but I don't think that geno will produce with the sever lack of talent around him. Even if he starts, I'm not too interested

  Jets have one of the top offensive lines in football!  They also have a good young LB'r, a good young CB, a good young DE, a good young WR, a very good young new RB if healthy and the Heisman Trophy winning QB who has both passing and running skills ala Russell Wilson - what do you mean they have no talent?

  IMO Geno Smith has better physical talent to play QB at the NFL level than Russell Wilson, but so did Jamarcus Russell. It's tough to beat the love of the game that Russell Wilson has, and I'm not seeing that with Geno Smith. On the other hand, Cam Newton seemed to be a question mark before he played his first game in the NFL.
