New Daddy Help Needed....

My 11 month old baby girl is just touching everything she's not supposed to....my laptop, our cell phones, the satellite box, etc....and ignores her toys.

We tell her no and move her away and she keeps coming for more....we spank her hand...she could care less...

Suggestions?

You've got to simply keep those items out of her reach.

Buttons are cool. At that age my son used to go up to the tv and start changing the channel during football games. Like Joel said, keep important items out of reach. Also play-yards can be helpful, it's like a corral for your kids.

she is growing as an individual.. learning about the world around her give her gentle reminders and boundaries. and all the love you can. as i have said before when little they step on your toes when they growup they step on your heart..

Ahhh.. My daughter is now 16 months.. Still does that, its how they learn.. I can't be on the laptop when she's around which is why I'm always on my phone..

She's supposed to be grabbing things at that age, she's learning.. If she's grabbing something you don't want her to tell get no and give her something else to distract her

watch louis c.k. stand up specials, just to get an acceptance of hopelessness that comes with the little guys! in all seriousness, I have no idea how to manage the grabbing, pulling, exploring.... we went through that problem once with my now 3 year old, and now get to re-live the hell (I love my kids very much and their growing up process! ha) all over again with my 14 month old...this guy annihilates anything and everything in his path!

seriously though, check out them louis c.k. stand ups, he hits parenting on the head, just in a depressing manner... Haha

I had to block my entertainment area off with a walker n crap cuz she was always turning the surround sound off or turning volume up.. They think it's funny

Very nice bd, thx for the reminder...my wife and I feel like we're running out of toes lol...

Buy her toys that resemble cell phones, laptops; toys with buttons, lights and music.

On occasion, put that toy laptop on you lap, act like its yours. Same with the toy cell.

Stay in there man, they're not little forever.

Give her an old remote or old phone to play with...my sister did that with her kids worked pretty good actually.

You can always let her take over the team you dropped in the DC salary cap league. That should keep her busy.

this...and the trick is to find that magical item that keeps her attention...you'll have to toggle through a bunch of stuff but eventually she will encounter an item that is safe that she cant be happy unless its with her....try a mark ingram bobble head doll or something....lol

Be happy. Your child has just started to explore the great big world of "NO!!!". While this is frustrating for a parent try to remember that your offspring is simply trying to establish her place in the world & see just how far her influence extends.

Without the ability to verbally communicate eloquently with her you are going to have to use simple deterrents such as visual cues & physical restraint. Removing the child from the situation endlessly usually just ends up pissing off both parties involved so there needs to be a line (or two depending on how you look at it: Bad & REALLY Bad) where serious consequences are implemented (4-5 minutes of "alone time" in a toyless pack & play in a room away from everyone else or whatever gets results). Remember at this age consequences MUST be immediate or "why" they are being punished is lost on them. Your child will: Cry, scream, get pissy, etc... when you remove them from places they like or remove things they like from them. This is natural & you are not their friend. You are their parent. Grabbing & playing with crap they are not supposed to is UNACCEPTABLE behavior & there will be consequences if they continue to do so. As my son has learned this isn't a threat. It is a promise.

Conversely, remember to use positive reinforcement when your child does something you want them to do. If she grabs the remote but puts it down the first time you say "no" a "treat" (I used the sweat potato puffs things) may be in order. This behavior isn't rewarded a second time (if she grabs it again, no puff, no matter what). Positive reinforcement isn't as effective for most things but you would be surprised how quickly children learn to associate actions with results (even at less than a year old).

Good luck & remember the parent mantra "I will not kill my child... I will not kill my child... I will not kill my child... (repeat as many times as necessary to not destroy offspring)"

Glad my baby girl has a 10 month old baby boy... been there and done that... sort of...

There weren't any personal computers and cell phones when she was little. She just wanted to put on Mom's high heels and run the vacuum cleaner.

You need a time out space, a pack n play is what we use .. Say "time out" each time and put her in there.

My daughter is just getting into this stage. It's difficult and I don't have any solutions yet.

^ agree with junkie here ... but she's just exploring and trying to see what daddy's seeing - it's a cool thing.

Try reorganizing her toys. My wife switches them up every week. They think they are getting new toys. It's hysterical. It works on all 3 of my little ones
