I'm trying to decide if I need to improve.  I don't think IDP is a crap shoot. There are some very consistent tacklers year to year. I'm trying to get more of those guys.

Any guy in the NFL, offense or defense, can have a big game. Def is no different than offense, you try to get the guys that are consistent weekly, with the chance to have the big games.

If you only did IDP once, maybe you should have given it more of a try. Its great being able to watch the whole game.

I agree that IDP is much more streaky. Like we already talked about Bucky....Many teams roster IDP players that score the same or even less points than guys on the waiver wire.

Example...my 1st year in an IDP league I went into the draft trying to have a balanced roster and get the best IDP players I could. I used a combination of my own and Tavs rankings. It didnt take me long to realize that I needed to swap out prob 60% of my IDP squad for waiver wire players that were out performing my guys I drafted fairly high and passed on decent offensive players for. I didnt even make the playoffs. The last 2 seasons I have pretty much ignored the IDP positions till later in the draft and have won back to back championships with an offensive unit better than my opponents and very productive IDPs drafted late and plucked off the WW.

you take IDPs where there averages starting out pacing the offense that is left.. that is how you win a IDP league.. you dont grap a 200 idp over a 240ish offense talent..every idp league i am in there isnt much in the way of "talent" on the WW but once again i play with much larger rosters...

Talent and fantasy points are 2 different things though. Theres usually guys out there that up putting up crazy points for being on the WW...Unless you are in some crazy league with 16 or more teams and stupid huge rosters. The top 5 LBs on the WW are prob averaging close to or at 10 pts per game while the top RBs and WRs are averaging 2 or less. I agree with you assessment but there are exceptions. I passed on prettey good IDP players to get Jimmy Graham after his average rookie season. It payed off in a huge way. Sometimes you have to keep or draft a prospect offensive player over that 18o-200 IDP player. If I didnt I wouldnt have Graham. This year Ill be keeping Hunter over much higher scoring IDP guys...and i wont have too much trouble replacing that IDP guy with some other guy that scores at least close to him.

oh i agree with that assessment JR.. i wouldnt take any IDP over a top prospect in dynasty.. not saying that at all.. once i have my starters and backups and the idps are out pacing offense talent which maybe mostly gambles i start in on idps...but yes every idp league i am in is 16 teams and huge rosters...i dont like the 10 man teams where everyone has studs at every postion.... makes the drafting much more important...especially latter picks...

But Im not even talking about top prospects. I reached for Graham at 2.12 of a rookie draft and kept him over all my IDPs after an average season. He wasnt a top prospect at the time and Kendall Hunter is far from top prospect right now.

but all my leagues also have separate rookie/vet drafts...8 player taxi squads, 53 man rosters, 16 teams..in a 10 or 12 team league i understand where there is alot left on the WW.. is all..

I agree with everything you guys are saying. I don't keep defensive guys over offensive potential either. But this is a 12 team, dynasty league with 40 player rosters. There is some talent on the ww, but it's usually at the db position. There will be an occasional lb that gets hot, but that only happens with 1 or 2 guys a season. Right now there is only 1 lb on ww that ave 10 ppg last year. 99% of the ww lbs in my league ave 7 ppg or less last year. It's not possible to just rely on ww IDP players in this league. In order to compete, you have to have a solid defensive unit, not elite, but very solid. We can start 3 lbs so it's important to have good ones. Our good lbs score 250+ ppg.

With all that being said, I asked about mine because I want to get a sense of what ppl thought. I think I'm good on defense, but not quite good enough. There are teams in the league that have similar offensive talent, but there IDP are better. Which puts me behind them. With not a lot of def talent on ww, I need to makes some moves def. I asked for opinions do I could get a sense of combinations of players to get better guys.

Hole this makes sense. It's hard typing this much from my phone.

^ i would be looking to add some top young lbers from this year draft if possible..hightower, upshaw, kuechly, knedricks depending on landing spots and how they willbe used...is always harder in deeper leagues to trde for top 10 lbers...

I know Kuechly won't be available when I draft. I'm targeting Hightower and Kendricks at the moment.

I agree that it's hard to get a top 10 lb. The guy that owns Laurinaitis basically only has him. He has a lot of DBS he starts because they are scoring more than is other lbs. I have offered him 3 for 1 deals that would drastically help his lb core and he won't move him.

I wouldn't say man crush. I just think he'll be the #1 lb this year. He will be unattainable then.
