I scored As in both classes Godfather, thank you for caring.  Heroin is a huge epidemic where I live so I am hoping to make a dent as a counselor.  Someone has to, Jesus.

Good job on making your studies a priority. Fantasy should always take a distance backseat to family and education. Best of luck to ya Gary, you're hard work should pay off.

Kinda funny how we're the richest/most affluent nation in the country and we have the most problems with drugs.

Countries where people actually have to hunt, spend time with families, worry about work, no fast food actually have to cook meals, might have to walk miles to get water for the day, etc, have much MUCH lower rates of depression and drug use than the US.  It's like we are bored so we just decide to be depressed drug addicts.

Guess that's why they're called recreational drugs.

^^ also doesnt hurt we have the money to buy it..or steal it from someone else..and those countries that cutoff your hands for thiefs and castrate those sex offenders probably doesnt hurt to deter crimes/usage lol. wonder what the punishment is for drug use in those countries?

See us Canadians know how to have some fun. Rob Ford doesn't represent all of us though. He's just jolly.

Sorry to sound depressing again lol but i just found out our company is planning on laying off half the maintenance staff that i've worked with for 8+ years.  And guess who will be the one who has to break the news to them?  Their supervisor, myself.  I'm curious how these conversations among upper management even start so close to the holidays?

i guess at first glance sure that sounds like a great idea....but....id want the information immediately when the company has decided to cut the employees...so you think your doing the "good" thing by waiting until after the holidays...until then the handful that will soon be unemployed are buying expensive christmas gifts or picking up bar tabs on new years....id want to know to prepare...shitty christmas or not

Thats a huge trend....low level landlords finance properties, rent them out, then stop paying the mortgage and pocket the tenant's rent payments.  it takes so long for the foreclosure to go through that these guy get 2 years of rent payments and the bank cant' touch that money.  Meanwhile, the renters are forced to move and deal with daily real estate agent showings

I hear ya.  Well, supposedly we need to make sure our ducks are in a row.  Get the vendor contracts signed and all that so when we layoff someone else will be there to pick up the work.  Most of the people we'd be laying off are minimum wage workers.  Guess we can't justify paying the health insurance for them...seems to be the word on the street

It's not just your company font's.  Obamacare is causing this same ripple across the nation.  Companies just can't afford what's being forced down their throats by the White House and are having to look at alternatives to stay in business.  Bad days are ahead of us unfortunately.  Hope everyone prepares themselves.

I'm there with ya Doggie.  Our costs for benefits went up like 5K a month as we rolled out a new health plan in August.  Our typical annual GOP is about 400K in a good year, its negative when the housing market is down.  Thats a 15% drop in GOP just from insurance.  I respect those who don't share my political beliefs so i don't want to turn it into that if anyone is for Obamacare, I'm just stating factual business occurrences that are happening due to reform.  There are some good things about Obamacare I'm sure, but it'll have an impact.

Corporations are evil, however because of our setup with the stock market, businesses have to maintain profits regardless what occurs.  I always tell people nothing is free.  We get a program/law that affects business (whether its more corporate taxes, higher costs, etc), it comes out somewhere else and the first thing cut is benefits and labor, or you see product and service prices increase.  After all, it's not like the Board at GE or Exxon is sitting around saying "Well, our costs are going up next year, lets just do nothing and hope our investors don't notice and sell stock when we report lower profits next quarter" lol.
